What deadly diseases are transmitted through spitting?

If we compare spitting to be like a loaded gun, we need to throw sneezing in there as well.

IMHO, the officer had a greater chance of getting infection by throwing the punches and catching one of his knuckles on her teeth than he did with her spitting on him. An open wound and saliva is bad news.
Shouldn't you be taking your arguments to the Legislature? You should have an easy time convincing them that intentional spitting in someone's face is just a harmless pastime. Until you persuade them, spitting on someone is a crime.
Never said it wasn't a crime. I asked what deadly diseases are transmitted through spitting? Also, please note your article link does not support the Hep C is transmitted through spitting.

On a side note, I can recall a time on this board when folks were a little less testy and took the time to read others post fully and provide well thought out answers. :tiphat:
You want some examples of what could be caught from spit?

Meningitis, chickenpox, flu, diphtheria, rubella, TB, Hepatitis ABC, conjunctivitis, cytomegalovirus...

It's is concerned by many about HIV and other stuff, but most of it cannot really be transmitted through saliva alone, but through blood, which you can spit. So anything that can be transmitted through blood, can theoretically be transmitted via spit if it has blood in it.

There's a lot of bad stuff out there, and nobody wants to take it home to their family at the end of the day because somebody spit on them. :nono:
:iagree: I know that the officer hitting the woman is wrong legally and morally but knowing there is a chance of getting a infection from the spit makes me understand why he might of reacted that way.

It would be horrible if he did catch some infection and went home and spread it to his family before finding out he had it.

There is a better way to handle something like this. Let’s assume you are a jailer that is spit on by a prisoner and the prisoner can’t make bail for a few days. Don’t hit the prisoner, but when you are on duty and meals are served, make it a point to take that prisoners meal to him/her personally. When you put the meal in the cell, just smile and say remember when you spit on me yesterday and smile. Do it every meal when you are on duty.

Don’t really do anything that could get you in trouble but have fun.

I don't think I could be trained to react any different than he did, especially knowing the kind of infections there is out there. Maybe he slept through that portion of the training.

The other officers acted to stop her assault by covering her head and getting her under control. The cop/jailer lost control out of anger and retaliated. His job requires that he not do that and that he maintains control of himself and his emotions.

I believe he should be punished accordingly. I also cannot definitively say I would have done different. However, that does not make it right.
:iagree: he should receive a week off with pay.

VMI77 wrote:So if one of us not a LEO responded in the same way would we get a pass or be charged with assault? If a woman spits on me can I punch her and not be charged with assault? How about say the police have just arrested some woman and cuffed her....she was drunk and ran into my vehicle...and as she was being led away spit on me....could I punch her without being charged with assault?
Spitting is assault and you should be able to stop an assault with force but whats legal and whats fair are two different things.

I bet the spitter didn't expect that. Seems like the spitter got a speedy trial and the sentence was carried out immediately. :thumbs2:
