The unvaxxed can't win for losing. First we should have been ostracized altogether from society. We should have died. Now, it's our fault that the vaxxed got that way because we didn't tell them. Statistics was never my strongest subject, so I could be magnitudes of incorrect. 556,616/300,000,000 (approximate population of U.S.) = 0.0018 chance of contracting covid.jerry_r60 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 11:32 amI"m curious what numbers you used. I know there are different ways to calculate this. Very early on, like in April of 2020 the per capita infections were 0.02% of the Texas population. The numbers I had then were a population of 29,360,000 and as of 4/5/2020 6,877 cases. As of yesterday, with a 2021 Texas population of 29,527,941 and total cases of 5,087,686, that yields a per capita infection of 17.2%.mayor wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 8:43 amYep. So is the U. S. turning the corner with this small daily decrease in new infections and new deaths?
Of course 556,616 new daily infections is still a lot.
Of course using vaccinated numbers or numbers from some different location, maybe a small rural town or something, you can get different numbers. I know there are several different ways to look at it but I'm just curious how you got .2%?
Death rate had gotten as high as 2.7% in Texas (I know some of the counting can be in question but this si pretty much consistent globally), with Omicron, treatment improvements, vaccines etc it's dropped back down to 1.5% in Texas. Thats from the beginning. I'm sure it's much lower if you only look since Omicron.
I don't have any numbers for being sick enough to be in the hospital.

Wow, Rand ripped that guy a new one. 'Take this back to Biden and y'all smoke it.' Everything Rand said is true. I'm making preparations to retire. It's more work than I thought. I have a friend that died from covid. I survived. I'm not accepting an inoculation.philip964 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 30, 2021 5:09 pm https://citizenfreepress.com/breaking/r ... r-becerra/
Medical Doctor Rand Paul drop MOAB on HHS director.
As Chris Christy said they should study a little psychology before ordering people to get vaccinated and threatening them with fines.
After all it was a free country until this year.

When all you can think about is your own petty orders aren't being followed, thinking ahead is non sequitur.Paladin wrote: ↑Thu Aug 19, 2021 8:35 am The authoritarians are making the crisis even worse:

Sure, anecdotal evidence is as good as scientific research. works for me.Daddio-on-patio wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 1:28 pmIf you accept some personal observation. The EMS agency I am a part of serves a County with 69,000 people that is said to be 38% vaccinated. We have had a recent uptick in COVID cases. Over the last 3 months we averaged 4 enhanced precaution calls per week. Over the last two weeks we have run a total of 37. I have transported 7 of those calls. 5 being confirmed positive prior to calling EMS. 1 was not vaccinated and presented extremely ill. The other 4 (1 Moderna and 3 Phizer), while not feeling well, presented with substantially better vitals with the exception of one that suffered significant ortho-static hypotension. The unvaccinated ended up in ICU. 3 others discharged from the ED. The hypotension patient outcome, which was yesterday, has not been relayed to us.mayor wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 12:08 pmM'kay. If you do the homework, you find that mostly the only people dying from COVID are those who are not vaccinated. And those who are having to go on ventilators are the ones not vaccinated. There is no coronavirus in the vaccine, and the results have proven largely effective. If you refuse to get vaccinated you are only helping to spread variants, and you are deluding yourself.

NO.Ruark wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 6:23 pm What's really silly is all this foil hat paranoia about getting the shot. Good heavens, it's just a freaking version of a flu shot for crying out loud. Just get the freaking shot so we can get past this. There's a private school in Miami, for example, that refuses to hire anybody who has had a vaccine shot. They actually believe that you can get seriously ill by simply standing too close to someone who's been vaccinated. Good grief. GET YOUR SHOTS!!

So, herd immunity is a pipe dream.03Lightningrocks wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 10:02 pm I am sure most here don't need this warning but I will give it for those that do. Through out this thread I have been vocal about believing the government violating our rights by issuing bans, closures and mask mandates is wrong. I still feel this way. But I do think people should take it upon themselves to know the risks and act accordingly. Here is my story.
Thanksgiving week my foolish brothers, mother and all their children decided to spend the week together in what I now call their own private super spreader event. Almost all of them got it. Either from my Mom who did lucnh with a friend the week before, or my brother who traveled from Ohio on a Covid special flight. The lady my mom had lunch with was tested positive, but decided after two weeks she was safe. She still had it. They are my family and I love them but their actions were nothing short of foolish.
They all recovered fine except my younger brother who is 55. He ended up in the hospital on a ventilator and remdisiver. After three days he got better. He then tested negative so they sent him home. Yesterday he went back to hospital for a kidney stone when they found an air pocket in his lungs and a positive test for Covid! Turns out you can get it twice and maybe even three times. He is now once again on remdisiver in an attempt to keep it from causing a second round of pneumonia.
So right after my mom texts me that he is hoping to go home in time for Xmas because she bought a prime rib and was hoping to go to his home and do dinner with them! I blew my last nerve and told her she was crazy if she went back around them this soon. I reminder her she is 80 and may not get lucky a second time and die from the stuff. So she calls the nurse at the hospital to ask if she had immunity since she recovered from it with no issues. Of coarse the nurse said absolutely not. She also told her that the past couple weeks they have had a rash of people coming in with Covid for the second time! So after being told by the nurse it was a dumb idea to get around a person with Covid, she decided it was called off. I texted her back that there is nothing more exciting than playing covid roulette. I am just blown away by the absolute insanity of it all.
Anyway, be careful folks. This virus is insidious. For absolutely certain, you can catch it twice and there is no minimum immunity period.

John Hopkins also published this study https://web.archive.org/web/20201126223 ... o-covid-19, then removed it from their site. Read this https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/m ... n-n1178930. By using total infected, you are including people who have it, but may or may not die. By using people who have completed Covid by either dieing or being recovered it is a more accurate view of the current situation. Early on it was more like 10%, but we are now more experienced at treating people. The percentage who died is still suffering in the US from the dismal outcome of patients in New York.
Texas is doing much better at 2.2%.
