I looked him up, he died 15 years ago. There goes $500.00 out the window.

Re: New York State Sets Up Gun Snitch Line With $500 Award..

Funny, I wonder if a person I used to know, I have been gone from NY State for 20 years, still has the guns I knew he had.

And if he's still alive.

I would turn him in in a minute, NY or otherwise, he used to be the judge that was in charge of granting, or more often not in his case, Pistol Permits in our county. We sued him several times for test cases: regarding "bench vetos" of permits, just leaving the apps unprocessed on his desk, constantly moving them to the bottom of the stack; and then for denying permits without good cause; and then for denying permits for stupid causes; and then for something else; and then our coalition ran out of funds to sue him with, so he eventually won.

I turned him in once for littering when he dropped a cigarette on the sidewalk and crushed it out. There was a cop nearby and I told him about the miscreant, and he went over to talk to him. The judge gave him one of those "Do you know who I am, young man?" answers which did not sit well with the cop.

I know that this person, more than 25 years ago, had possession of handguns that he did not have permits for, I saw them when I was repairing his telephone line and his wife let me in the basement. Since pistol permits in NY are public information, it was easy to check to see if he had permits for them the next day, and he did not. Unfortunately the phone company had some very specific rules about "snitching" and how would the police get a warrant to search anyway. But that phone company does not exist anymore (although I do draw a pension from their successor) and as a retiree I don't think they could hold me to that clause if they could even figure out who sent in the snitch.

Oh, the temptation.
