Re: Obama Asks for Gun Violence Victim Stories

Sent to bambam and his minions.

In 1972, living in Albany NY with my wife and teenage daughters (a situation you surely can appreciate) in the middle of the night one night we awoke to much banging on the front door. When my wife and I answered the door there were several teenage boys there, the leader of which tried to force his way in, supported by as many others as would fit in the tiny vestibule.

As they tried to force their way in, the leader and a couple of others started to describe, in the most graphic and obscene terms, the treats they had in store for our younger teenage daughter while shoving on the door and making threatening moves with their hands as if they were going to strike me. The kid immediately behind the leader could be seen to be carrying what appeared to be a knife and another kept his hand inside his jacket as if reaching for a concealed handgun.

My children were terrified, rape and mayhem were the stated goals of our night visitors, and I felt that my life and that of my wife and children was being threatened. I am thankful for the coolheaded response of my (now late) wife because in the midst of all of the ruckus, she thought to stop at the gun cabinet and bring my shotgun, which she had little use for before that day.

As the miscreant finally gained access to our front hall, followed by the one with the knife, she calmly handed me my shotgun, with which I proceeded to defuse the situation and hold the criminals for the police, which were still several minutes from arriving, having been called by my older daughter. While the young hoodlum knelt in our front hall, voiding his bladder in his pants and soiling our carpet beyond repair, my wife finally agreed that maybe it was time she took some lessons in firearms, and she did.

When the police finally did arrive, the leader and his buddy, all but one of his other supporters having fled at the sight of the gun, tried to have me charged with assault with a deadly weapon. The police laughed at him as they hauled him and his friend off to jail. The police left the knife behind and I kept it in the gun cabinet for many years as a souvenir and reminder that guns are a force for good far more often than for bad.

Not a shot fired, and once again, the mere presence of a firearm prevents a crime.

That gives me an idea. How about a website where people can go to tell their stories, just like yours? Since very few of these stories ever make it into the crime statistics, that would be a way to advance the narrative that gun owners usually don't shoot to stop crimes, they simply draw. John Lott would be tickled pink.
I think we all should contribute that kind of story to the obama web site. I too was entangled in a situation where violence was threatened and a gun defused it, I'll have to type it up and donate it to bambam and his minions.
