The entry into the RV appears to be a pretty high angle, but where it hit the side looks less so, meaning, to me, that the projectile was deflected by the penetration of the victim's arm. Taking all that into account, and that the projectile did not exit the wall it was found in, I would hazard a guess that the round hit the backstop and was deflected upward resulting in the high arc and relatively low velocity.Keith B wrote:We were discussing this at dinner with some shooters and non-shooter (Obama supporter types.) It really boils down to why the bullet missed the backstop and traveled 5 miles. Terrain, trajectory, etc are all going to play into this. If it was a high shot on the backstop that missed, and the range is elevated from the motor speedway, then it could have just been a freak deal. The fact that it went into the middle of the raceway during a crowded time, then that it hit an individual 5 miles away is a REALLY freak alignment of the planets. 99% of the time there would be no one even around.
