Of course an assault rifle is, by definition, not "High Power" but they have the bully pulpit and then we have to play catch up to try and educate the public that those are really medium power guns, and that most body armor was NOT designed to stop direct hits from them.

And the fact that firepower is a function of accuracy, in orther words, shots on target. Lots of bullets that don't hit anything are not firepower. I used to issue a standard challenge, which nobody ever took me up on - youu take your "high firepower" Uzi SMG 100 yards down range with one full 30 round magazine - I stand at the other end with a Model 52D Winchester and one round of .22LR and we shoot at each other until one of us hits the other, and we'll see who has more firepower.
