Would those be considered private proxy servers?

Re: Knowing Now Are You Still Participating in Face Book?

Since my business has become so dependent on accessing the internet and using the tools available, I am always on the lookout for ways to mitigate the invasion of my privacy. I am not a tech wizard and do not have any real expertise in this area. For those of you that are less technically oriented like me, here are some tools that will help mitigate some of the snooping and tracking. Like I said before, it is not practical for me to just eliminate the use of the internet or certain websites and social media as many of the younger people are just not responsive to many of the older ways of marketing. On top of that, I do not have the resources to compete with the companies that have millions upon millions of dollars to budget for advertising and marketing.

Here are some tools and techniques you may find of interest if you are concerned about your privacy and being tracked.

Brave browser (pc and smartphone apps available)
StartPage for private searches
DuckDuckGo for private searches
AdBlock (for when I have to use Chrome or Edge browsers to access certain websites)
Disable 3rd party cookies
Clear browsing history, cache and cookies often.

Feel free to add to the list and share what you do to mitigate privacy invasion and tracking. Notice I said "mitigate". It is not practical or easy for the normal internet user to remain completely anonymous and leave no tracks.

Re: Knowing Now Are You Still Participating in Face Book?

Here is a post regarding a frequently asked question about MeWe.

Mark Weinstein - Admin MeWe News and Updates Featured Post

A question we often get is “if MeWe doesn’t have any ads or sell our data, how do you make money?”
MeWe is free for everyone because privacy is not something anyone should have to pay for. There are no ads, no fake news, no newsfeed manipulation, no facial recognition, and MeWe members are #Not4Sale. And all the great features you need to have a great experience on MeWe are free and standard.

The revenue model on MeWe is “freemium.” That means in addition to the great free standard features, there are optional special features, like extra storage (8GB is free and 50GB is $4.99 per month), Secret Chat (like WhatsApp only without their tracking bull, using the latest double ratchet encryption technology - 99 cents per month), Custom Emojis (99 cents a packet), and more.
Plus, we have a separate division, MeWePRO (https://mewepro.com) for businesses and enterprise customers. PRO replaces email for internal company communications and has a beautiful suite of fully integrated collaboration tools and the best security. It costs less than $75 per year per employee and is far superior to Slack.

You see, it is a false myth that has been spread by Facebook, Google, Snap, Instagram, and others, that our data is what we have to give up to have a great social media experience. That is a complete lie and PURE bull! Capitalism was never intended to be a system for spying on people - that’s communism and CREEPY.

Friends, Facebook is a data company, plain and simple. Their members are the products that they sell. At MeWe our members are customers to serve, not data or products to sell. That’s why we use the hashtag #Not4Sale!
MeWe: Great Communication Technology, NO bull

What's a "carrier website"? Requiring IE virus vector was a thing of the past, I thought.
I own and run an insurance agency and have to access insurance carrier agent portals all day long. It's crazy how some of them work with some browsers and some do not work with others.

rotor wrote:Just signed up for mewe. Looks like a Facebook alternative without the tracking. As I still use older IOS devices be warned ahead of time that their app requires IOS 10 or higher so I can not use it on an older device. None of my IOS devices will update. My wife of course runs state of the art.
Here is where I am different than many. I do not like using apps unless I have to or they just make the experience that much better. I usually use the mobile web page when I can. It appears mewe.com requires an app on mobile devices. I'm not sure I will download the app and may just access the site on my computer.

Would be interested in feedback regarding their app if people are willing to share. Particularly regarding battery consumption and how much data it uses.

Re: Knowing Now Are You Still Participating in Face Book?

Abraham, I use https://www.startpage.com/ as my search engine. While is also uses Google behind the scenes, it is my understanding it blocks my IP address from Google tracking.

However, with that said. It is very difficult to not be tracked by somebody. It takes a lot of work and some IT knowledge. Even then, I am not convinced anything is 100%. If you are on the internet, there is someone watching and tracking. Take for instance, the fact you use a Yahoo email account, opens the door for the liberal yahoo to track much of what you do on the internet. Most websites you go to store cookies and other data on your computer that helps track your activities.

This is why I take such a strong position when someone on the internet calls me a hypocrite for being on the internet. If someone is on the internet, even when the computer is not actively being used, there is data being exchanged.

Thanks!
I provided a link that discusses the differences. You should review it yourself and decide if it is something you are interested in or not. If not, don't sign up. Sometimes it's better to do your own research and critical thinking instead of relying on others.

Re: Knowing Now Are You Still Participating in Face Book?

Here is and alternative to facebook for those that are interested. Maybe enough people will move over to it so it will be a viable platform. However, it appears quite a few that have set up accounts have done so in addition to their facebook account rather than instead of.

https://mewe.com/values

If you are not interested or don't want to utilize such a platform, then don't.

Re: Knowing Now Are You Still Participating in Face Book?

Abraham wrote:Rotor summed it up beautifully,

"FB may be a tool but everything you do on FB is making them money to deprive you of your rights. Just like shopping in a store with a 30.06 when you could have gone elsewhere to shop. That photo on FB is loaded with gps info on where and when it was taken. There is no limit on what they know about you and yours from your account. It wouldn't be so bad if they cared about the constitution but they don't. You are helping the devil. Next you may want to subscribe to Bloomberg News. Just my opinion."

For those of you who post forth your continued reasoning for using FB, see the above.

The above is true and you know it, but some insist: I just have to us FB because, ah, ah, ah, sure go ahead, support your enemy. It's your choice to make.
Why are you still supporting the liberal progressive company, Yahoo while worrying about others?
