Michael Quinn Sullivan has done a lot to expose Straus and his cronies. While I have yet to find anyone that I totally agree with on every issue, not hopeful I ever will, I think he has done much in the effort to advance conservative efforts. He hasn't as far as I know been a huge player in gun rights issues but he champions fiscal conservatism and busting up some of the cronyism that had plagued the House since Straus to control.
Bottom line, I typically give him the benefit of the doubt. Take that for what you paid for it.

Re: Joe Straus
He's asking for he legislature to play a shell game in order to appease the "gun nuts" by passing a law that is easily circumvemted using built in loopholes. Make us think we are making 2nd Amendment progress when in practicality, nothing is being done.
The citizens and voters are too stupid to know any difference.

Re: Joe Straus
Voting for the speaker will happen tomorrow. It's not too late to let your rep know you want him or her to vote for Rep. Scott Turner from Frisco. I encourage you to let your voice be heard regardless how much of a longshot it may be.

Re: Joe Straus
As an example of why Straus remains speaker, look at what Boehner and the establishment republicans are doing to those that opposed Boehner for speaker. Within hours at least two have been stripped of their committee positions.
Restating the obvious here, governing and politics has become about nothing other than power and greed for those in office. We have to return to citizen legislators.

Re: Joe Straus
There are some really smart wealthy influential people working on it. However, there are some really smart wealthy influential people working to make sure he gets reelected. They have vested interests in making sure he stays in office until he decides to move on to bigger better things.

Re: Joe Straus
Dallas County Republicans want Turner to replace Straus. I am a little surprised it wasn't more one-sided. Tells me Straus has more support outside of his cronies and progressive friend than some realize.

paxton25 wrote:I think you are pretty much spot on. So far as the speaker vote my view is since Straus is most likely to win I would like to see us sit back and just see who votes for who. Separates the insiders who care more about ambition that policy. Either way it shouldn't change the strategy of applying pressure to get the right bill to a floor vote and passed.
I think Straus' cronies and insiders are pretty well known and obvious. The problem is, their constituents keep voting them into office.

Re: Joe Straus
First off, I didn't attack you personal. I questioned your comment and assertions in this and the other thread.
This question alone indicated you believe they are not using their influence.
Would you be so kind as to specifically tell us what you expect of the NRA, Mr. Cotton and Tripp that they are not already doing?
This question alone indicated you believe they are not using their influence.
I think if you used your considerable influence to pressure him to put good bills up it would make it easier right?
Why would the NRA or others that are working within the system come on here and publicly hammer and advocate for his replacement when there is limited chance Straus will be repkaced and knowing they may be contacting him in the best future to get him to appoint a more favorable committee chair or use his influence to get a bill to the for for a vote?Yea but imagine what they could do if they really wanted their agenda passed and they used their clout and influence. This is the problem I see, those that can make it happen won't make it happen because they don't want to loose any influence they think they have and really all they are doing is providing cover for bad politicians and bad bills.
