Re: Open carry "contact" by hot headed LEO.

For these people walking down the street, what was the cop's PC ("riding a bike at night without a headlight")?

Well, I hope the crowd forgives me this first post in this forum being in this thread, but since the protagonist in the thread is my Chief Deputy I figured I might weigh in. While he sent me a link to this thread, he has no idea I am posting this.
Several of y'all (yes, we are in Georgia) have asked questions he hasn't completely answered so I thought I would clarify a few things.
For instance, IF you apply for a job in our agency, during the initial interview process we ask an applicant to tell us about the differences in Tier 1-2-3 stops, and to explain to us the difference between PC and RAS. Now, we only do this for certified, experienced peace officers. You would be surprised at the failure rate. Some can't even come close, and we tell 'em about it too. IF you don't know the difference between RAS and PC and you are already a peace officer, you can't work for me. IF you don't know how to have a consensual conversation with someone without threatening to shoot them in the head, maybe you outta go back to work at WalMart. Cause you ain't gonna work for me.
Re the video now.
I would have all 4 of those cops standing tall in my office. the contact for his stupid, condescending mouth and the other three cause they let it go on. Here we are, 50 years after McFadden(by stopping Terry) gave us a great tool to go after criminals with, and these boneheads decide to behave in such a threatening and condescending manner to a law abiding, tax paying citizen. Not a ONE of them did anything to stop it.
Anyway, I am through for now, but i will drop by to address any issues that may arise from my first post here. By the way, my name is Scott Berry, I am the Sheriff of Oconee Co Georgia since 1993, with 35 years on the job. I 'spect JLW will vouch for me since he was in Morgan Co today screwing around while I had to work
'nuff said.

He makes a good point.

Don't take my comment as advice or a recommendation. You are a free man, do what you want but be prepared to deal with the consequences whether they be bad or good or what you expected or what you didn't expect.

I also don't always take a warning as a threat.

Re: Open carry "contact" by hot headed LEO.

Roy,
Keep in mind the cop said if the person make a move towards the gun he would shoot him in the head. To me, that is just a fair warning.

I had a cop tell me one time, in a semi-joking way when my car was broken into and I called him to take a report, "if you keep your gun in it's holster, I'll do the same". My response was "Likewise". He gave me a knowing smile and we moved on with my report knowing where we both stood with one another. He wasn't in for taking any junk and neither was I at the moment.

He and got along real well and he dusted for prints and did all he was supposed to do and I appreciated his assistance.

Re: Open carry "contact" by hot headed LEO.

I liken it to a guy running around going to the bank, grocery store, hanging around across from an elementary school and other places where it is expected people wear clothes without anything on except those skimpy little running shorts. It isn't a problem when you see the guy running but in the other places, it doesn't fit and someone may feel the need to have the police make contact. It isn't illegal but it also isn't practical in today's society. I suspect if you pushed it, someone will end up calling the police and they would make contact with the person. Is that an infringement on one's rights?

The only issue I have with the head shot is a higher probability of missing. I live in Plano and bet the cops here would have you face down on the ground and in cuffs under the exact same situation.

I have an idea, maybe we could talk ole Beiruty into giving it a try. I will volunteer to video it. :biggrinjester:

Yeah, I would be slinging this one:

Re: Open carry "contact" by hot headed LEO.

It's become a darned if they do and darned if they don't situation for the cops. I just want them to handle the situation properly and the officers in this video seemed to do fine.

Re: Open carry "contact" by hot headed LEO.

I'm all for carrying a long gun or handgun however one wants but we have to understand, walking down the street with a gun openly viisible will more than likely result in a contact with a cop. Just the way it is.

Re: Open carry "contact" by hot headed LEO.

I skipped through the video and didn't watch all of it. As far as the "shoot him in the head" comment, I see that as just a fair warning of what would happen if the guy made a move towards his gun. No harm no foul.

Seemed pretty level headed to me.
