I guess they figure she will be the potential target when they get the customer's order wrong and think the sign will keep her safe. Go figure.chasfm11 wrote:Some companies are schizophrenic on this issue. I'm working a problem with Haverty's Furniture right now. None of their show rooms are posted (at least as far as I've seen) but they have a huge, in-your-face 30.06 sign at their pickup point. I spoke to the manager at the showroom where I bought our furniture and found out that he has a CHL, too, and disagrees with their policy. Corporate tells him it is for "employee safety". So the employees in the store fronts are not meant to be safe? At the warehouse, there is less than 100 square feet of customer accessible area that is covered by the 30.06 so the sign mostly applies to Haverty's warehouse employees. All that sign buys them is the ability to have an employee arrested for carrying rather than just being fired (they have a policy like most other companies against carrying on the job.) The situation makes no sense to me. When I showed up at the warehouse, I had to disarm to go into the tiny office to sign the pickup papers but could interact with their employees on the adjacent parking lot where they brought the furniture that I had purchased so the sign did nothing for employee safety there. Essentially, the one huge sign "protects" one woman behind a desk.chrisdxn wrote:My full-time job is in a business that has the 30.06 sign on the front doors. I cannot disagree more with the sign
and I have voiced that disagreement to the corporate office. They have one way to view it and I have another.
Most of us are pro-firearms and we live by the concept....You don't tell me and I wont ask! I have watched
people walk up to the front door....look up at the sign....and return to their car and drive off. The company is a
great company but it does have this issue completely wrong. I had several people say something to me and I
can only tell them I do understand and they are truly preaching to the choir.

Re: Moral vs Ethical carry on 30.06
I'd be interested to know which company. It is definitely not one of the 15-20 with which I work. Guess I am fortunate as I have not even had an underwriter ask about gun signs or gun policy other than when hiring or providing security guards.
I also am not inclined to bring it up with any of my underwriters as they do not need any help coming up with new ideas or requirements.

Re: Moral vs Ethical carry on 30.06
Do you know of any specific instance an insurance company required a no gun sign be put up by an insured business? I have been in the insurance business a long time and have never seen it or even heard of it.RottenApple wrote:Keith, I don't think that's quite what he's asking. I think he's saying that if a business displays any "no gun" sign, then we shouldn't go in. And you're right, it has been discuss extensively here.
To the OP: Frankly, I disagree. We don't know why the owner/manager chose to put up a "no gun" sign. Perhaps their insurance required it, perhaps they just want to make their gun-fearing clientele feel safer, perhaps they trebly want to ban guns from their store and are too incompetent/lazy to look up the legal requirements to do so. Do you know why? I certainly don't. The ONLY way to know for sure, with 100% certainty, that the owner/manager does not want (for whatever reason) concealed handguns in their establishment is for them to post a correct and valid 30.06 sign.
Therefore I will continue to ignore and carry past any and all "no guns" sign that does not comply (or come reasonably close - 3/4" letters, for example) with 30.06.
YMMV
The only time the carrying of guns comes up is if security guards are hired.
