I hear what you are saying. I still don't think it is a "party" issue. Thinking of Joe Straus and how Governor Perry didn't proactively address pro gun initiatives and now Manchin aligning himself with Biden and Bloomberg. Democrat or Republican, I just don't agree that it is a party thing. It comes down to the individual putting principle over personal gain/profit.Cedar Park Dad wrote:Why do you think the Republican Party cares one whit? Parties only care about votes and power. To believe otherwise is not strategically prudent.

Re: Letter to Governor Rick Perry
I disagree with the Progressives/Democrats on many more issues than just 2A and guns. I'm not saying I wouldn't vote for a democrat but I doubt I would find one that would agree with me on enough issues to warrant my vote.Cedar Park Dad wrote:Maybe more democrats should be elected who aren't against the Second Amendment as well? Relying on one party is not the best idea (all your eggs in one basket).
For me it is not a party issue. My votes are based on the issues (economics, religious freedom, freedom, Constitution, sanctity of life, foreign policy, budget/debt, defense of nation etc.) character, integrity, trust, values and principles.

Re: Letter to Governor Rick Perry
Exactly my point in my previous posts. We all need to get involved to determine who will actually represent our interests with more than lip service, not only 2A, and work hard to support their efforts to get on the ballot. Then we need to support them at the general election for office. Just getting mad and voting for the other guy is not the answer.Charles L. Cotton wrote:

Re: Letter to Governor Rick Perry
I don't vote on party lines either. I do know that voting out of spite can do more harm than good. If there is not a better overall candidate than Perry then I'll vote for him.

Re: Letter to Governor Rick Perry
Make sure there is a better candidate in the running for which to vote by actively participating in the process. Splitting the vote just to punish him can come back to haunt you. I can assure you I would rather have Perry in office with his record than Bill White or Julian or Juan Castro.suthdj wrote:I am 1 vote, but if you have a better idea on how to punish him so it only hurts him I am all ears.mojo84 wrote:That would be punishing the people of the State of Texas more than it would be punishing Perry. Now for him to not do something when he has the power that is failure on his part and the only way I have to punish him is by voting against him, See so simple. Yes this may make some upset because it is against what they want but that is why or system is so great we can voice our displeasure at the ballot box.

We made gains this session. They just weren't all the ones that we wanted. We all need to keep in mind that we are a very small segment of the population. We shouldn't start questioning Governor Perry's commitment to gun owners just because he fails to add our pet causes to a special session.
And an even smaller segment of people that actually keep up with what is being proposed and passed in the legislature. I've made it a point to ask quite a few of my friends if they are happy with the bills that were passed this year. Very few even knew there was anything in play much less passed. Some of these fools have gun collections that makes mine look like peanuts.

Re: Letter to Governor Rick Perry
I do not believe there is any intention of overriding 30.06 as that would violate private property rights and those are just a important to uphold as gun rights. I suspect the intent is to allow us to carry anywhere a cop can with the exception of privately owned property that is properly posted with 30.06 signage. jmho

Mr. Cotton, did you letter go out via email or fax? I want to contact Gov. Perry and reference your letter but I do not want my email/fax to arrive prior to your letter arriving.
Thanks!
