Re: Best 9mm JHP for primary carry?
I have not seen a recommended load for the M & P. I've been experimenting and so far I shot 4 or 5 brands (124, 147 +P JPH rounds) through it. I just receied Hornady TAP 147 +P, and Speer Gold Dot 124+P and I will shoot them within the next week. I do like the feel of the Winchester 147gr bullets but I will see when I shoot again.

Re: Best 9mm JHP for primary carry?
I have 100 rounds on order (Speer Gold Dot 124 +P JHP). I plan to shoot 30-50 rounds and put the rest in the mags. I'd like to get a good feel for it before I make it my primary load.

Re: Best 9mm JHP for primary carry?
A point of clarification- Using "+P" in the M&P is OK. The manual states not to use "+P+"

Re: Best 9mm JHP for primary carry?
Thanks Guys. I've seen a couple of youtube videos on the Rem Golden Sabre 124 +P, the Federal Tactical HST 147 +P, and the Corbon JPH. They are all highly rated.
I looked at the Winchester 147 JHP rounds and there are mixed reviews on it. Not sure about that.
One that hasn't been mentioned is the Winchester Ranger 124+P+ JHP. It gets good reviews but I'm not sure that I want 16" of penetration if I am shooting at one person?
Thanks Brian. That is what I figured. I was a little worried about my pistol exploding in my face on the range. That would be kind of embarrassing and probably pretty painful!

Re: Best 9mm JHP for primary carry?
That is another thing I am wondering about. My manual doesn't recommend using +P ammo. But I want a round that will cause substantial damage if I need to use it. I wouldn't plan on shooting +P ammo on a regualr basis- Just enough to become comfortable with the round.

I know it's a nono in my Sig.loadedliberal wrote:I recently saw advertised a 147 grain +p+ 9mm round, the ballistics on the round are almost that of a .357 magnum. I can't vouch for how it works but I must say I'm interested in trying it out with some old phonebooks and seeing the penetration and expansion.

Re: Best 9mm JHP for primary carry?
I did find Hornady Critical Defense 115gr FTX JHP ammo and it looks promising- might try to order some.

Best 9mm JHP for primary carry?
I'm kind of new to the forum and I am looking for the most effective 9mm JHP with stopping power for my primary carry load. I've done a little research and the Speer Gold dot 124 gr +P bonded JHP seems to be a popular and effective round. It also looks like the Federal 147 gr HST JHP round is a good one.
I've put around 600 rounds down range (and do the majority of shooting with) Monarch and winchester 115 gr FMJs. So I want something that will not have a totally different feel than what I normally shoot with (if possible).
I have about 100 rds of Speer Gold dot on order. I plan to shoot around 50 rounds to get a feel for it and use 50 in my 4 mags (S&W M&P 9c).
What is your expereince and recommendation?
