Trip went fine -- thanks for all the prayers and advice.

We ended up driving on Friday and staying the night at a Holiday Inn on the TX side of the border. They had safety deposit boxes available for storing valuables. :)

On Saturday (today) we only had to drive about 1 block into Mexico and get the treatment for my daughter and then turn around and drive home. We were out of the U.S. for about two hours total.

Long road trip in TX, but I also have to go into Mexico

I have to take the whole family on a long road trip tomorrow for a medical procedure for my 18 month old daughter. We will be driving several hours across TX, so I want my concealed handgun with me. But the procedure will have to be just across the border in Mexico (long story, but this is one of those "must do" things that isn't yet federally approved and legal yet in the U.S.

So I know how un-gun-friendly Mexico is, but I don't want to leave my pistol at home for a marathon road trip. I was thinking to bring a locking case or perhaps two -- one for the loaded mag and one for the empty gun and just lock them both when we drive across the border and then re-arm myself when we cross back into TX.

Is this smart or stupid? What would you do? Any advice from anyone who visits border towns?

Thanks!!!
