It can still be passed next week. The problem is that with so little time left every day that goes by the risk increases that the bill won't pass (for instance, Democrats can filibuster like they did with the abortion bill last session).

Given that Republicans consider giving you a $50 dollar tax cut (or whatever minuscule amount it ends up being) more important than the 2nd Amendment, I highly doubt a special session will be called for any gun bill. Also, a special session costs more than $1 million (although personally I think that's a very small price to pay to restore our 2nd Amendment rights).

Very little chance... such issues are rarely, if ever, in special sessions.

Charles, I understand all kinds of people read these pages and that consequently you may not be able to comment publicly, at least at this point, but I have some questions if you are able to answer them:

1. Assuming the worst, that neither the house nor senate versions of the licensed open carry bills pass, neither the house nor senate versions of the campus carry bills pass, and that the house bill expanding the list of places where CHLs can carry does not pass; are these issues permanently dead for the foreseeable future?
2. Are any of these three bills still realistically in play at this time? Conversely, are any of them dead at this point?
3. If these bills are dead, is it there a general sense among representatives and senators (and the Lt Governor) that they are safe from any political blowback for shafting Texas gun owners?
4. Lastly, and related to #3, and realizing that there are other issues besides the 2nd Amendment, is it your sense that legislators by and large do not regard 2nd Amendment issues as having any significant priority relative to the rest of the legislature's business?

My personal response to how they have conducted themselves this session is, for the most part, disgust. Given their overall fecklessness (in my view), it is exceedingly fortunate that they only meet every two years.

Better chance for SB19 to get a session than SB11 or HB910, IMHO.

Ideally, let special session be called for other reasons (justifying the expense), then add a gun bill if needed.

Two and four years ago this did not happen, but then that Governor was running for POTUS.

no one smart enough to win the governor's chair is dumb enough to call a special session for this. Why risk political capital for something that could blow up in your face? OC Zealots are old, sweaty TNT. He'd sign a bill, but won't back one.

Also, he's pretty much said everything's done that needed to be done. I'm sure those who will be assaulted returning to their cars on campus would disagree, but there you have it.

You would only see a special session if it had to do with major issues such as budget, education, or some sort of public safety (i.e. the flooding). Even if there were a special session, HB910 or SB11 would not be addressed, even if they ended in filibuster. Don't get any hope up for a special session.
