Ephiphany - OWB works just fine for concealed carry
So I have been carrying for a few years now. I have always hated IWB - just not comfortable for me at all. A few weeks ago, I was working at home and had a 1911 in an outside the waist holster. Looking in the mirror, it dawned on me that my shirt covered it just fine and there is no reason for me to carry IWB. I feel so liberated (and silly for not seeing the obvious for so long).

For me it depends on what I'm wearing. IWB allows me to wear just about anything in my closet. OWB not so much but still very doable.

I found the same thing, but it didn't take me that long.AlaskanInTexas wrote:So I have been carrying for a few years now. I have always hated IWB - just not comfortable for me at all. Yes, owb works with certain types of clothing. The real trick is to avoid banging that extra couple of inches hanging off your hip into things. Chairs with arms are a particular nuisance, as are some narrow doorways.

I dislike IWB; just doesn't feel right. I find I can either pocket carry or OWB with all of my clothes. Although my wardrobe is generally aimed at OWB. Dress around the gun.

The problem for me isn't walking around. It's getting in or out of the car.. In or out of a chair that might disturb the shirt.. Or just walking around in the wind.
I really like OWB - and with recent law changes there should be less risk of an "incident" associated with accidental exposure.. However, it's no where near as concealed as IWB.

To each their own. I have carried IWB when I had a G27 probably less than 5% of the time. The rest was OWB and most of that time was in the dreaded Blackhawk Serpa sportster that sticks out a little too much for some folks' taste. Since switching to .45's I've only carried in a sportster OWB. Been doing it that way for about 12 years now.

I'm a fairly small frame guy, but like others I really dislike IWB carry. With larger caliber guns I print pretty bad. I know it's not "illegal", but having a bulge that looks like I've got a grow cat under my shirt isn't too comfortable either. So, I switched to a Bodyguard 380 in an OWB slide holster. Maybe not my preferred choice of caliber, but it's comfortable, it disappears, and I'm comfortable to carry it everyday without a worry. Sure I'd rather have a 9 or 45, but a 380 I'll carry every day is still better that a 9 that I leave in the car.

Same here. As long as you have a holster & belt that pulls the gun in tight, it's no sweat!stroo wrote:I dislike IWB; just doesn't feel right. I find I can either pocket carry or OWB with all of my clothes. Although my wardrobe is generally aimed at OWB. Dress around the gun.

I've never tried IWB as it always seemed like it would be very uncomfortable.
I'm an OWB guy.
A little bulge showing, who cares?
Very few people will notice and if they do, I will state: I don't care if they notice.
Nor, will I concern myself with: What if someone asks about the very slight bulge?
Puh-leeze, if someone is ill-mannered enough to ask, you are not obligated to give an answer.
If such a personal question IS asked, just stare at them. They'll get the message.

The reply "A colostomy bag" usually ends their curiosity pretty quick....Abraham wrote:I've never tried IWB as it always seemed like it would be very uncomfortable.

I have never tried IWB.
It's been OWB for me since day one.

I honestly don't understand why anyone would reply to a very personal question posed by a complete stranger in public regarding a slight bulge around ones waist.
Let me put it this way: If it were any other very personal question asked by a complete stranger in public, would you feel obliged to answer or make something up?
My guess is you wouldn't.
Perhaps, you'd shake your head in disgust while saying nothing and keep walking.
But since you're (legally) carrying a concealed handgun, some of you feel you've no choice but to provide a reply, i.e., lie. Well, you don't have to fabricate an answer as you owe no answer.
Me, if ever asked a personal question by a stranger, I'm not going to provide some bogus answer to a question that should never be asked.
Am I being picky?
Nope, I'm just not made nervous because I'm legally carrying a pistol in an OWB holster that might create a bit of a bulge.
