Definition of belt or shoulder holster?????
I swear, I'm not being intentionally obtuse here.
What is the definition of "belt or shoulder holster"?
Does a belt holster have to have slots that the belt passes through? Would a paddle holster worn at the belt count as one? Would a drop leg holster that has a strap that attaches to the belt count? Maybe just a sandle stuck in between the belt and the body (there is a picture of that floating around the internet).
I won't even get started on the number of possibilities that would qualify as a shoulder holster!
I just want to make sure that, if sb17 passes as written that I, or other well intentioned individuals, don't wind up on the wrong side of the law. While I believe it is reasonable to call a paddle holster or an IWB holster with clips over the belt a belt holster, what I believe is pretty irrelevant if an overzealous Police force (Acevedo) sticks with a stricter interpretation of "belt or shoulder holster".

And someone else posted in a different thread pondering open carry in a car, in a belt holster attached to the steering column.
The bill only says it has to be in a belt or shoulder holster.
So if I stick my 1911 in a belt holster, and then shove that into my pocket, or even "Mexican" am I satisfying the letter of the law, but not the intent?

Here's that "belt holster" you were talking about
As the bill is written, belt or shoulder holster is not defined.
I'm rooting for the words "belt or shoulder" to be stricken from the bill, simply requiring OC to require a holster.

Keep calm and carry.

This may fall in the category of, "be careful what you ask for".

I disagree, with no definition of belt holster, I could easily see someone like Acevedo ordering his officers to arrest anyone OCing unless the belt threads through the holster or a holster that holds the firearm on top of the shoulder.mojo84 wrote:This may fall in the category of, "be careful what you ask for".
Either the words "belt or shoulder" need to be removed, or holster needs to be defined. IDPA, USPSA, and PASS have had no problems defining holsters. Heck, I'm the author of the PASS rulebook, I'd be happy to waive the copyrights if they just want to copy the portion of the rulebook that describes the belt holster.

What about women wearing skirts or dresses? Does carrying in the side pocket of a purse count as a "holster"? This is getting pretty silly.

That sounds like an extremely bad idea.Ruark wrote:What about women wearing skirts or dresses? Does carrying in the side pocket of a purse count as a "holster"? This is getting pretty silly.

I'll walk around with the same setup as a cop if I need to. Arrest me for unlawful carry then....

Re: Definition of belt or shoulder holster?????
I'm not sure there's much benefit in speculating what the definition of something that may or may not end up in a bill that may or may not pass. As it progress's definitions would be hammered out. Personally I can't see something like that being defined in much detail, that's a slippery slope they could end up being volumes to try to define.
