Lots of "What ifs" Like what if the CHL holder legitimately thought he was being attacked and drew and fired?

Personally, I think ALL of the people involved in disarming him should be in jail right now.

I'll often walk with my weak side hand in my pocket, holding my knife. If I was being tackled like that, it is just as likely as I'd have stabbed whoever was tackling me. An up close and personal ambush, I can deploy my knife quicker than my gun.

I would have shot him and any other "hero" that attacked me. A choke hold is dangerous and not just because of possible suffocation.

I would guess thats why the guy jumped him from behind when the person wasn't looking.

In case no one mentioned yet, this is a great reminder of the importance of staying aware. He failed to notice the attacker who followed him from the parking lot. Had he paid more attention, he might have been able to stop his attacker.

I have gone over similar scenarios, as I hope we all have, and if someone were to assault me, allowing them to get a hold of my pistol is not an option. I have come to the conclusion that shooting them is the logical response.

As for the idiot attacker in this case, not only did he assault an innocent law abiding citizen but for all he knew, the guy was a LEO. He didn't just "get it wrong". He assaulted a man he thought MIGHT be a threat and had no justification for doing so.

I don't disagree with that but had he noticed the attacker watching and following him, the attacker may not have had the opportunity to attack him from behind.

True that. Thats reeeeaaaaallly difficult though when walking into a Walmart. After all, its perfect normal for everyone to go into the same direction into a store.

Yeah, I can't really fault him for his situational awareness. There's always a lot of people going into Wal-Mart, and you can't keep an eye on all of them. Living your whole life in Condition Orange would be stressful and tiring.

Some here fail to realize that if youre jumped from behind you have a good chance of being taken completely out - and if your hands are in your pockets, you are even more vulnerable.

Years ago I saw a big muscular guy, 6'+ and weighing around 225#, get taken down in a clam shell parking lot by a much smaller guy.

The little guy executed a perfect tackle. He wrapped the guy up; pinning the victim's arms to his side while driving him down. The victim never knew what hit him. He was helpless and landed flat on his face. As he lay stunned & out of breath the smaller guy proceeded to brutally beat him nearly unconscious.

I quickly learned that you dont want to take a header in a clam shell parking lot. The guy's face was really cut up.

Yeah, I can't really fault him for his situational awareness. There's always a lot of people going into Wal-Mart, and you can't keep an eye on all of them. Living your whole life in Condition Orange would be stressful and tiring.

geee, I've never had a problem doing it, being oblivious newton john is never good, if your not at least at yellow all the time your not asleep your wrong and a victim just like the guy who got tackled

What I can't understand is what would make any sane person think it was a good idea to tackle a guy you KNOW is carrying a gun, especially if you don't know their intention! Did it not cross his mind that this guy might be a LEO? If he did mean harm, how do you know he doesn't have a partner? Most criminals come in 2's or 3's (or more). This was extremely dangerous and stupid for said "vigilante".

So what do you do if two people in Walmart are on the ground scuffling for a gun? You've got a 50/50 chance of getting it right.

If the opportunity presents, secure the gun and let them keep wrestling until the cops get there. Otherwise, just keep watching for that opportunity unless the fight becomes way too one-sided.

You may have hit the nail on the head with that qualifier. Sane!
