Military Hummers for sale near kerrville?

Did they even have Hummers back in the '80s? Those sure LOOK like jeeps, to me. (But I'm sure NO expert!)

If I do recall, GM made the H1 back in the early 90's with ol' 6.5L Detroit Turbo Diesel V8 (Great motor, though not a powerhouse) and the HMMVW(Spelling?) chassis and all. Those were real hummers before the went to the new models which used a suburban chassis and the 6.0Vortec. (booo gasser! They should've kept the chassis and thrown a newer Duramax in it.)

So they are real Humvee's you think? I've never seen one or really heard of surplus ones being given to civvies. If it's the real deal, then that's a bad-a truck. What motors did they start them off with? If I do recall, the first humvee's were gassers of some sort, SBC I imagine.

Yep, those are the real deal. In the 90s I think a few were sold as surplus prior to the H1 being produced. Until just the other day no others had been sold off. A small number have been auctioned off as surplus a few days ago.

I think they were going for $20 ~ 45k. Need some work before being road legal.

I like how car and driver says they're not street legal vehicles. I guess they missed the fact that the Military drives them on roads. I've heard getting them registered is a real pain and quite costly though. I think it's cool that they're finally releasing them to the public. I would buy one if they ever start selling them for what they're worth, like the CUCV's and the 5tons/2.5tons... 40k for a Humvee, no thanks, I could 4 beautiful 2.5 ton M35a2's or a cargo variant 5 ton. I'll take the M939.

A huge swath of ill-informed buyers will be very disappointed when they find out how gutless they are compared to modern engines. Even the 6.5 Turbo Diesels are pretty weak, and cannot be heavily upgraded as compared to a 12v Cummins Turbo Diesel. I can imagine people will be making that swap though in some of the Humvees. Great truck, but overpriced at auction. I still sincerely hope that the public excitement dies, and the auction off huge amounts of humvee's, I would like two troop carrier variants, one with the Detroit, and the other the gasser variant. This way I could drive the gasser when diesel prices outweigh benefit the additional fuel mileage of a diesel.

Well, does look like a Hummer but that's not a cannon, it's a M40 106mm Recoilless Rifle. By the late 1970s I think they'd all been transferred to the Nation Guard so I'd be surprised if an M40 106mm was ever actually mounted on a Hummer. The .50 cal is a spotting rifle. If the .50 round hits, yank the lanyard.

Key words, "starting bid." Looks like most of em went close to 5x the starting bid.

I remember when the Hummer H1 first became commercially available. I believe that Arnold Schwarzenegger bought the first one.
