Re: November 2014
By mail it was this long for me:
Took TX CHL class October 8, 2014
"Mailed" in paper application with personal check on October 9, 2014.
Application received at Austin TX CHL office October 13, 2014.
Notified by Austin TX CHL to get fingerprints on October 27, 2014.
Went to local Morpho fingerprints office and completed on October 30, 2014.
Received CHL license in mailbox November 7, 2014.
29 days total. If you have no issues or no record, it should be the same for you!

Dang 8 days from the time they received everything? That's quick.
Re: November 2014
29 Days total. But remember, you must have "no encumberences" for that time frame.
1. No record whatsoever! Period. (You can have one, but it will delay)
2. No mental health record whatsoever.
3. No child support or other disqualifying debts at all!
4. No probation, no unresolved legal or other issues.
5. Pay correct fee.
6. Complete all forms required correctly and in its entirety.
Where people draw concerns from mostly is legal issues, convictions, child support, probation, debts, unpaid tickets, etc. But if you haven't that, what I mentioned above is the rest of what you should eliminate.
Anything you have on your record will increase time, cause delay or denial. No record - No problem. Quickest time.

Re: November 2014
Just got my status change today! I have a criminal history (2 juvenile misdemeanors for drug posession, one adult misdemeanor for drug posession, and a felony drug posession. The felony was dropped and all of the other charges were deferred, probation on all three). The last arrest was 14 years ago. I don't really talk about that part of my life much, but I spent some time worrying that these things would delay my CHL and they didn't. I'm divulging this info to help ease the mind of the next person who comes along with a past they aren't proud of. I just called the DPS helpline to make sure that the status change meant that I was approved and was told by the representative that the license was mailed yesterday. My plastic could come in today, but more likely it will be tomorrow.
Online Application: 11/04

Class: 11/09
Uploaded documents: 11/10
Status update: 11/21
License mailed: 11/20
License received: 11/26
So far that's 17 days since the application was submitted. I supplied letters of disposition for the adult arrests at same time I uploaded all the other documents. I think this may have helped things along. I called on 11/17 to make sure that they had received everything (and to try to subtly pump the rep for info). I was told that they had a hit on my criminal history and that they would have to investigate and make sure that the arrests weren't disqualifying. Pumped!

Your post gives me hope. I have an old misdemeanor also. Hopefully mines as fast. I submitted 4 days after you. Congrats.Araya254 wrote:Just got my status change today! Re: November 2014
WOW
Submitted my documents 11/11/2014 on Veterans Day and have not heard anything.
Today 11/21/2014, I called DPS just to see if they had received anything from me and all I got was a read back of what they had received. I didn't want to be pushy so I did not ask any other questions.
When you called and were told about your status did you have to ask or did they just tell you what was going on with your criminal background check?

Be kind and rewind.
Re: November 2014
If you are a criminal and have committed criminal offenses, they "WILL NOT" discuss them!
Re: November 2014
There's nothing to discuss anyway. If you listed it on your application and sent them the proper court documents then all they do is make sure it's not a disqualifying charge and that's it. There's no in depth investigation into a misdemeanor. They do they same background check on everybody.
If it's not a disqualifying charge and it's been over 5 years for a Class A or B then you're good to go. The only reason they ask for a deposition is to confirm the dates and to make sure the case is no longer pending.

Re: November 2014
Yeah, they volunteered the info that there was a hit on my BG check. When I asked the rep what it was he got coy about it, I didn't press him. Two days later they mailed the license.buddyhotrod wrote:WOW
