I agree. I'd rather have 51% repeal and campus carry than open carry, if it came down to the brass like that. Being able to carry in 51% establishments and especially on campus could do more good. Open carry is more of a convenience and freedom. Concealed Carry in more places could (read: WILL) save lives.
As polls here have shown, OC is not a top priority in our community. However, recent events have made it so. Additionally, if the Governor-elect mentioned it, unprompted, you would think that a) it is on his mind and b) it is a clear signal to the legislature that he doesn't consider it controversial or veto-worthy. In other words, it should be a gimme but anyone following this issue for awhile knows that the opposite has been true (no doubt due in large part to the long-gun OC demonstrations). I suggest that we accept the gift and press on with the rest of the agenda, too.

Just a thought here. I'll admit I'm excited about the prospect of open carry, but is it conceivable that it could hurt CHL'ers?
For example: A shop is not posted 30.06, but they have some anti-gun customers. PRE-OC, its not an issue as nobody really knows who's carrying or not. Nobody sees, nobody cares. POST-OC, that same anti crowd is now looking at guns and doesn't like it. That crowd gets vocal and owners must react, so the store goes 30.06 and everybody gets hosed.

It's conceivable. It's also conceivable that it would only strengthen your ability to carry a firearm lawfully. Check out the laws in other OC states to see how they handle it.
I'm not so much concered with the legality as I am the practicality of it, especially with the current "OMG guns are bad!" Mentality around the country.
Personally, I can see a lot of the folks who were riding the fence on guns going to the dark side and banning them when everyone is showing them off. Maybe it's just me.

1) It doesn't appear to be practical in OC states where it is legal. My take is that if it is "unexpected" you can expect to have to produce your papers and credentials.
2) I wouldn't assume that passing OC immediately results in additional demonstrations... Likely it would mostly be business as usual.
I have mixed opinions on OC like someone in a line at a convenience store or fast food place with their firearm exposed and someone in line behind that person pulling their gun. So you would have to be aware of your surroundings

Even if it has never happened before in any of the OC states it would still be in the back of my mind
As someone that lives in an Open Carry state, I can tell y'all that most of the worries CHLers have about Open Carry are pretty much non-events. Nobody grabs an OC'er's gun. Nobody draws down on an OC'er. The cops might get called, but that's fairly rare, and even if you're somewhere that open carry is technically disallowed (places serving alcohol, etc), most cops will just give you a "you might wanna take that outside, because it's technically illegal in here" lecture.
I have my concealed-carry license for politeness' sake, and because sometimes I want to throw a jacket on. But it's real nice to not have to worry about "unconcealed firearms."

It's not.
Especially since even if OC were to pass, those who aren't comfortable with it are not going to be required to open carry.

Thanks! I lived in AZ a while back and open carry was pretty prevalent, but nobody carried concealed. I understand that's changed now, but I've never lived in a state where both are allowed. Gonna get interesting when it happens.
