My experience outside the ivory towers is decidedly different. Most seem to have a poor grasp of basic arithmetic, never mind complex math, based on the puzzled expressions if the register says $29.87 and I hand them $40.12.koine2002 wrote:I've seen this. I'd like to know the total number of students interviewed. While I could make a joke about Tech, I won't. The issue has to do with the deemphasis on the humanities, liberal art, and social sciences. I'm an academic. The students I encounter can spit back math and science formulas with ease.

Re: Who won the Civil War?
IMO, this video is not a slam against any particular college.
Every school has it's share of lower and higher caliber students and each produces it's share of lower and higher caliber graduates.
I think the title of the video - "Politically-Challenged" is too generous.
It's really about a core of general knowledge that every high school graduate should have.

I don't think they will be running the country per se, but will probably voting for those who will continue to run down the country.Cedar Park Dad wrote:People from Texas tech will not be running the country.sjfcontrol wrote:These university students (Texas Tech) are going to be running the country in a few years -- We're doomed!

They knew the name of Brad Pitt's wife and they also knew the name of his ex-wife so they don't have bad memories. If they couldn't remember Joe Biden it's because he's not worth remembering.WildBill wrote:IMO, this video is not a slam against any particular college.

If nobody answered "The censored" are we sure this school is really in Texas?
If you want to know what was censored it's also the name of the 1956 Tony Award winner for Best Musical.

The ones of which you speak do not think they run the country, they think they rule this country.WildBill wrote:I don't think they will be running the country per se, but will probably voting for those who will continue to run down the country.Cedar Park Dad wrote:People from Texas tech will not be running the country.sjfcontrol wrote:These university students (Texas Tech) are going to be running the country in a few years -- We're doomed!

Before opening the thread, I was thinking I would answer The Federal Govt. I think I wouldn't be far off.Unicorn Rancher wrote:I confess I would be tempted to answer "Franco" if somebody asked me that.
I was also curious what the percentage of all the people interviewed could answer the question. Man on the street videos always filter to just the ones they want to show.

The "Snookie" and Brad Pitt's wives questions threw me for a loop.
