AR15 80% Lower Group Buy

#1

Post by dcphoto »

This is it, y'all!

The overwhelming majority chose the Anderson Rifles 80% lowers for $40 each. They quoted shipping at (around) $45. If nobody minds, I'll bump the price to $41 including shipping. Anderson has requested that one order be placed, and shipped to one location. After everything arrives I will arrange pickup or re-shipping with everybody individually. If you are planning to attend a build party you can get the lowers at the party.

If you want to be a part of the group buy please post here that you're in, then send me a private message with your contact and shipping information, how many lowers you want, and how you'd like to pay. I'll get back to you with all of my contact information. I'd prefer not to use Paypal, due to their anti-gun policies and exorbitant fees. If you decide to send a personal check please do so ASAP to allow it to clear.

I'd like to place the order on or before December 15th, so get me your info ASAP. I'll keep the group buy open to new participants until December 1st.

On another note, if somebody is willing to host - and attendees split the cost of fuel - I'll load my equipment in my trailer and we can have a build party in or around Houston and Dallas in addition to the party at my home.

I'm in.

If someone hosts a DFW party, I'd be interested, but I would also not mind making the drive to Austin.

If you want the best, CNCGuns is the guy who started it all. His jigs are the most capable that I've seen. I've used somebody else's jigs, and have a set on order.

I have a set of Juggernaut Tactical jigs. They are good quality, but since they are "universal" they take a little more care in setting up. I've found that if you don't take the time to ensure squareness when switching top plates the fire control pocket, or trigger pocket, can end up crooked. To be clear, I've never had a lower turn out unusable, but they're not the prettiest on the inside. Also, since it indexes off the buffer tower if there's any error in those tolerances it throws everything off.

There are at least a dozen other jig makers that I know of, but I can't comment on their quality.

What do we need to buy other than the $40 blanks to be able to do the project?

I'm still waiting to hear back. At this point it's not looking like it'll be legal with the equipment I'll have.

You'll need parts to finish the rifle. Lower parts kit, trigger group (if LPK doesn't come with it), grip, buffer tube, buffer spring, stock, an upper, and any kind of finish you'd like to apply. I can also help you build a stripped upper if you want to go that route. Basically, I'll provide all the tools and knowledge, you provide all the bits and pieces and show up ready to learn and work. My hope is that when you leave my garage you'll have a rifle ready to shoot, unless you paint it. If you paint, it'll be a few of days (two weeks is ideal for duracoat) until you can shoot it.

I usually get my lower parts kits, barrels, and stripped uppers from White Oak Armament. I get all my buffer springs from Sprinco. I usually source my triggers, stocks, grips, handguards, bolt and bolt carrier, miscellaneous parts, and sighting systems from GDS Enterprises unless I want something specific that they don't have. GDS doesn't always have the best prices, but I like to shop local and they'll haggle. Also, they are an amazing resource for AR15 info if you need help.

Edit: GDS doesn't have a website, but I can get their contact info for anybody who wants it.

At this point, due to finances and recently purchasing a nice BCM rifle, I was planning to just do the receivers and build the rifles later. That will also let me figure out just what I want to do with them. I wasn't sure if we needed to buy any tools or anything else to finish the project.

Care to explain what you mean? If it's not going to be legal why are you pursuing this? Enquiring minds want to know. :tiphat:

Letting others use his CNC mill programmed to crank out a lower, from the blank, is the portion that may get too close, or cross the line of legality. The 80% lower purchase is well inside the law.

The ATFs interpretation of the law is that unless you drew the CAD file, created the G-Code, own the CAM software, connect all of that (on your personal computer) to the CNC machine, and do all the setup yourself it isn't legal. I couldn't even provide links to software and CAD/CAM files that are available. Plus, If you already have all that stuff you probably don't need to use my machine.

Even with all of that being true, there have been a number of machine shops (at least I'm told by the agent I spoke to) that have still be busted for allowing a customer to build 80% lowers on their machines. I'm not willing to expose myself legally, or anyone else, to the risks from letting others use my CNC machine. Interestingly, this is why they say printing a 3d gun on your own printer, from a file somebody else made, is not legal. Because you didn't do the work. You just downloaded a file and hit print.

However, you can use my equipment to complete a lower manually (on a drill press, for example), as long as you do all the work yourself. I can't do any more than tell you how to do things.
