If you go to the TSA website, they specifically state that that "Note: a weapon permit is not an acceptable form of identification."edorgon wrote:Keith,
I found your statement: "CHL is not a valid ID in Texas. It is only considered a valid secondary method of identification." very interesting and informative.
Just last week I traveled from Dulles IAP to ABIA. I showed the TSA agent at Dulles my CHL as ID. He seemed a bit confused and when I said, oh, thats my CHL I'll give you my DL, he said, no, this is good. And passed me through. Similar has happened at Detroit=Wayne, Denver, and even NY JFK. But at ABIA if I do it, they say, not valid. Need your DL.
Strange.

CHL is a valid ID as of this year. You may use it as voter id at the ballot box.

Re: Chl carry
I think the issue with "Valid ID" is "Valid for what?". It's valid for whatever some agency, person, or official will accept it for. CHL good for voting, not good for proof of ID for getting a TXDL...which is silly since both issued by the State.
When I went to the Pentagon a few years ago on business the guard demanded two photo ID's issued by a government agency. My DoD contractor ID was expired, so all I had was Texas DL and CHL. They accepted it. I did note to the guard that I wasn't carrying, as you can't carry into the Pentagon unless you're pre-authorized by the DoD or other Feds.
