Red 51% sign at Abuelo's in Hurst

#1

Post by FrogFan »

Hi all,

Apologies if I've got the wrong forum for this topic.

Last night, my wife and I ate at the Abuelo's in Hurst and noticed a red 51% sign posted prominently at the entrance to the building. I just did a search of the TABC licenses and found that the sign should be blue (see http://www.tabc.state.tx.us/PublicInqui ... sults.aspx). I wonder if the owner/manager is taking liberties with the signage to keep CHLers out? Why wouldn't they just post a 30.06 if they wanted to do that?

This restaurant has changed locations recently. I've carried in the "old" location but I just happened to not be carrying last night.

Just file a complaint with TABC and tell them the restaurant is posting the wrong sign.
The sign MUST match the license, there are no exceptions in TABC regulations.

As to cause, don't presume. They just get a packet of signs and stuff and probably didn't follow the instructions.
Nonetheless, I think it's best not to bring it up with the managers and just let the TABC agents sort it out.

If they are not actually 51% you can carry despite the sign.

Ate lunch there today and the 51% signs are still posted so a completed complaint form has been provided to TABC.

Quick update: I ate here last night and the 51% sign was still posted. I followed up with TABC and was advised that I had followed proper procedure but the complaint had fallen through the cracks on their end. ( I guess two complaints fell through the cracks.) Anyway, my complaint has been forwarded to their Arlington office.

Hmmm, maybe I need to call about the status of my complaint. :)

Why worry about? It's Abuelo's problem, not yours. Just ignore it and carry on.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm not worried. I'm just providing information.

Because the Hurst police will see 51% + CHL and most likely perform an immediate arrest. They will let you and the DA sort it out. If it is a blue sign then they are likely to tell the manager to issue a trespass warning and ask you to leave versus taking the ride.

"Most likely"? On what do you base that? The license, posted at the location in public view, says the sign should be blue.

Where is the license that says the sign is supposed to be blue posted? I didn't see it anywhere near the 51% sign.

License will be usually posted back by the bar. They are supposed to have it out visible to the public, but just like the sign, they don't always follow the rules properly.

I have a hard time believing that Abuelo's qualifies for 51%. It's primarily a restaurant.
