Sweet thanks. Found out I qualify for the LE discount being a academy cadet. I wanted a gen 3 glock 17 but only see gen 4s.

I would call them directly and ask. When I bought a G19 in December at the Austin store, they had G17s and G19s in both Gen 3 and Gen 4 iterations.

I called and they are both out of stock, they are both the same price also. Im not ready to buy yet anyway I have to get a FFL lined up first.

Dallas PD came by today. You have to go through their 8 month academy to get on with them. Forget that, idk why they came by another academy looking to recuit. If any of us wanted to get on with Dallas then we are wasting our time sitting in the classroom of our academy. Was not real impressed with their dept anyway. They have a no pursuit policy on everything other than a active felony. Why even have lights and siren on your car if you have to turn them off if someone runs on a speeding violation? The recruiters looked sloppy, boots not tied ect. They talked about driving 30mph back to Dallas to milk overtime. Was not impressed a bit.

Check with GT's on their used Glocks. They get a bunch of police trade-ins all the time. Most of the time they are in great shape and much cheaper than new ones.

Actually I was referring to the bad impression of the sloppy officers and them actually talking about milking OT. The ect was just an afterthought.

Most big depts like Dallas, Austin, Corpus, DPS require you to attend their specific academies. As with any education, some academies do not produce quality candidates while others do and it shows when they are hired. There are many restrictive policies out there and once you are hired you will learn your departments. Is it worth killing a family over a speeder?

That or they don't want candidates dropping out of their program to join the program in the big D...academies are competitive, and if they have a large number of drop outs, that looks bad. Could also be a matter of egos, big city cops vs. small town cops. It happens.

I had seen this other places -- LAPD too (at least when i was living out there) will send all its hires, regardless of previous experience, through their own academy to train them in the LAPD manner of business. I expect the big departments would rather hire someone who has been through another academy and/or has some (but probably not "too much") experience in a smaller department as a way to not waste their own academy training and $$ on someone who is not suitable. They use other academies and departments as a screening function, and that previous attendance and experience gives them a track record to examine.

Would be interesting to see some stats on the students/recruits at big city academies and see how many of them had prior cop experience, versus being hired right off the street.

But sending sloppy recruiters out...

Maybe the recruiters were looking to see if any of your candidates asked how to milk the system so they could weed them out.

Many places like Austin PD and even DPS will fast track an "experienced" leo with a shorter then normal academy to get them up to that agencies speed. I look at some positions across the state and they also require one to come from a 75 plus person dept.

Now if they have bad recruiters they will quickly be replaced as that is a laid back gig

I believe they said if you have 10+ years experience you only have to go through a 20 week course vs the 32 week.

Filled out a 30 page app today. I had to admit to some things Im not proud of I did in my younger days. I was 100% honest and hope they look past my mistakes, God forgave me years ago and I pray it doesn't hold me back.
