Texting in theater sparks fatal shooting

I've found dinner theaters to be much better in this regard. Places that cost a good bit of money for tickets seem to avoid this. I've not experienced any issues with such. Alamo used to have the ghost of Ann Richards threatening to "Take Your *&* Out!" if you caused problems.

Evidently he followed another lady out an earlier time.

I can't believe CNN.com posted this - wait, yes I can. Considering that they list breaking news like Bieber & Benghazi with equal urgency.

First, the lady was driving when she heard the news of the shooting, so how did she know it was the same man who she bothered weeks before? I'm assuming CNN verified that after being so upset that she had to pull over, she then made her way to a TV and confirmed who the guy was. Which, as far as I know, today was the first time his picture was posted.

Second, what does she want? Does she want us to feel sorry for her? She deserved the dirty looks the man in the theater gave her while she was texting - apparently during the actual movie. That doesn't mean the guy was going to shoot her. Tell me who hasn't given the stink eye to a jerk talking, texting, or excessively shaking cups of ice and boxes of candy during the show? If he in fact followed her to the bathroom, she should have reported him, but maybe she realized she was the antagonist and was afraid to speak up.

If this is the same guy, then maybe the victim's family can sue her for causing the shooter to snap on the next person texting. Has to be some legal chain of responsibility there, right?

Can't get the Houston Chronicle link to the online version, but today's paper had a front page story about this which links to "stand your ground" laws. Following is one paragraph typed in by hand from the Chronicle's article. The law in the quote refers to stand your ground.

The law was the basis for George Zimmerman's successful defense in his Florida trial for the racially charged 2012 killing of Trayvon Martin.

Of course, this is simply not true as "stand your ground" was not used by the defense in that case. The entire article seems to be an attack on concealed carry and mentions John Cornyn's measure for concealed carry in all states.

Oh, and as far as this shooting, I thought one thing the first time I heard of the shooting, but have changed my thinking since then. Will have to wait for more information. From someone else's post above, I rent movies and watch on my 70" at home. My age requires more bathroom breaks and that makes the pause button superb!

As a cranky old guy in training, my solution to avoiding jerks in movie theaters is to watch movies at home - it's the best seat in the house.

johncanfield, I agree. Its hardly worth going to a theater anymore. Blueray looks awesome, and regular old DVDs are still pretty good on my new TV. And its a LOT less hassle, too.

This story really bothers me. It hits too close to home. Had dinner with the SIL and daughter last night and we talked about an incident that I was involved in a few months back. It was very similar.

We were sitting in a theater and the previews and commercials had not even started yet. The theater was fully lit and the screen was simply rolling those silent local adds. My SIL and I were quietly talking shop when this old cranker,(about my age...LOL), on the front row says to us, "you two need to be quite". Well I say back to him... "there isn't even any sound from the theater yet, we will be quiet when the movie starts". Well he fires back by calling us "butt holes" only he used the slang for butt. Now that made me mad so I say to him..."You and me. Outside". Of coarse my daughter is now scolding me and his adult son is scolding him. His son says sorry guys and my daughter says, no problem. He and I say nothing else to each other and he looks forward to watch the silent advertising. We lowered our voices to a whisper and everything settled down.

The conversation last night was about how that could have gotten out of control. And of coarse my daughter makes me out the bad guy. She started thinking she was my mother when she turn 30.

I suppose anyone pulling out a gun never crossed my mind. Even though I was armed. I didn't even think about my gun. But he sure could have had one.

It causes me to think twice before responding...in most cases. Having the weapon on me causes me to be less likely to hop on a guys face and bite off his ear.

I'm much more polite and accommodating when I'm armed. Weird how that works.

OMG! You do know you've just passed an age related milestone?! Next thing you know your daughter will be telling you while patting your hand, "Calm down Dad, you know your dentures will pop out when you get mad." Just kidding! That's pretty funny, the "kids" stepped in to calm the situation. Lol.

Y'all think that is bad, you should hear her when I eat chicken fried steak! I admit it. The whole thing was dumb. I should never have said "You and me...Outside" but that was my first thought when he called me that name. I probably should have just acted like I didn't hear him say it.

It is funny when your kids start acting like your parents. "Don't eat that, it's bad for you" . "You need to exercise more" . I turned my phone off one day a few weeks back and forgot about it. She sent my SIL to the house to make sure I hadn't had a heart attack. When I answer the door he says, your daughter made me come over here and tell you to turn your phone back on. I guess she loves me. I don't know why either.
