Yep, texting kills.
This isn't about texting. It's about a guy who lost it, probably a while before he entered the theater.

I have a hundred bucks that says the theater this happened in, responds by posting no guns allowed.

Shooter was a retired cop and I don't think he'd have to comply, correct?03Lightningrocks wrote:I have a hundred bucks that says the theater this happened in, responds by posting no guns allowed.

According to another article:03Lightningrocks wrote:I got another hundred that says the shooter tries to use the "stand your ground" laws as a defense!
"Needless to say, Alabama-based Cobb Theaters are gun-free zones"
ETA: not sure why this article references Alabama when this happened in FL.

Re: Texting in theater sparks fatal shooting
Now there is a twist. This could not be a true story. The gun cannot possibly have been in a gun free zone. Everyone knows how well these laws work.jmra wrote:According to another article:03Lightningrocks wrote:I got another hundred that says the shooter tries to use the "stand your ground" laws as a defense!

Why do you think a retired cop would be exempt from a "no guns" posting in general?CoffeeNut wrote: Shooter was a retired cop and I don't think he'd have to comply, correct?

Re: Texting in theater sparks fatal shooting
Because iirc retired police officers still have a badge and limited police powers so why would they have to comply with a "no guns" posting geared toward the general public. An off duty police officer in the theater is the one who detained the shooter and I'm guessing he had his firearm.Jumping Frog wrote:Why do you think a retired cop would be exempt from a "no guns" posting in general?CoffeeNut wrote: Shooter was a retired cop and I don't think he'd have to comply, correct?
