Devils advocate:
So if I'm a moderate / centrist / person that really doesn't feel strongly about the 2nd amendment, which of the two solutions is more likely to have prevented this issue:
1) Removing the "gun free zone" status of public schools
2) Taking all the guns out of the USA so kids can't get them easily

I'm suggesting that we come up with something else other than blaming the liberals...

Colorado has had an awful recent history of incidents like this.. We need to do what we can as a group to be sympathetic, supportive, and come up with productive solutions otherwise the centrist moms and dads will start to think that removing all guns might solve the problem. The more this kind of stuff happens, the bigger fight we've got.

Sorry, I don't live in LaLa land. I give credit where credit is due. It IS the liberals that refuse to allow us to protect our children.

I think I get it - you want the right to carry at school because of incidents like this, not because giving you that right would prevent incidents like this?
Sorry, I took your post to mean that liberal laws were the root cause of this shooting.

The "lala land" comment contributes what exactly?

Sorry, I realize now that liberal laws are the root cause of shootings like this.
Now you have it right. ;-)

A lot of school districts are idiots! Blame cities, school administration, school boards, etc. 20-20 hindsight says once parents were "criminals" for saying "NO" to their rug rats and not allowed to spank, it all started going downhill.

We need to remove the idiot "gun free zone" and start training & arming teachers and selected key personnel along with higher security (doors, video cameras, access by others only with approved ID, etc.

Several schools have already adopted these precautions, including a number in Texas. You will never identify and prevent psychos (adults and children) from shooting others for recreation. But, you can decrease the probability that a bad guy/girl can access certain places; and, if found, bring down the tough arm of the Law and put them in a cage (or something more permanent). When I was in public school in the 40s and 50s, there was NEVER an act of violence! Kids respected others and if not, just got into a minor fight... and, Principals and Parents never "spared the rod"...

Prayers up. Taking guns away from law abiding citizens is not the answer. That's all I have to say right now.

Lightning,
You altered my post and misquoted me. That's not what I said. I take it the "LaLa land comment" is just an insult and nothing more. That's fine.
Look, I stand to be convinced. Show me how liberal laws caused this shooting and I'll listen. Just don't deliberately alter my posts and insult, please...

I'm on board with Running Arrow - armed teachers or faculty may not have prevented this, but they might lessen the damage done in a columbine situation.
I don't think that removing guns is the answer either... And I feel a lot of sympathy for all of those parents in Colorado. It's just too much.

I am terribly sorry. CO now has some of the toughest law on guns....it did not help. The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Now whether that is arming teachers, administrators, or having armed police at each school that is the only solution that will actually make a difference.

I was just channel surfing and as I passed MSNBC I caught the end of comment the reporter was making. He was summing up his account of the story with these words....."Again, another student dies in American schools today." Good lord... here they come already. They have their pitch forks sharpened. Unless I am mistaken, the only dead student is the one who brought a gun into the "gun free" zone and fired on others. I guess the poor misguided youth is a victim since he shot himself in the head.

My kid goes to a large local high school. Their school has an ARMED police officer on duty. Do you think that kid in Colorado would have pulled that stunt if an armed police officer was on campus there? Of course, we'll never know...but I know how I'd bet my money.

To paraphrase Jeff Cooper, "The firearm itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with firearms."

I'll give you my humble opinion on how I feel this shooting is a result of liberal laws/theology.
Anyone who grew up in the Bible Belt under a legalistic upbringing knew that preachers kids and Deacons kids were always the first to get into some kind of trouble. Why was that? Because they lived in an environment where they were constantly told what they couldn't do. Everything "fun" was taboo and demonized. By delving into things that were off limits they got much more attention than they ever got when they did what was expected.
What does this have to do with school shootings? Before the liberals demonized guns and made everything gun related taboo, we didn't see kids bringing guns to school to kill others or themselves. They did bring guns to school (probably more often than now) but for an entirely different purpose.
Disturbed kids have throughout history committed acts of violence against others and themselves. This is not likely to change. But I believe school shootings (relatively new in our history) are happening because of the stigma liberals have placed on guns and the attention and notoriety our society gives to those who act out in such a manner.
