Instructor Certification expiring...

#1

Post by boomstick »

Certification will run out on 12/31/2013. I will not be able to get NRA certs until early next year to renew with the state. Is there a grace period to renew after expiration or will I have to start all over again?

I think instructors have a year grace period to renew (just can't instruct) BUT you may have a problem scheduling a renewal class. :( It may be quicker to just go through the 3 1/2 day instructors class. :( (I attended a second 5 days class in lieu of my 1 day renewal class because I wanted to go through it w/my bride. :) )

Is the problem your schedule? I bet you could get an NRA instructor to certify you quicker. Might be a premium for a 1 on 1 class. :)

NRA Instructors don't certify other instructors you need an NRA Training Counselor. :tiphat:

I'm running into the same thing but for a different reason. I am coming back from active duty status and training for my civilian job now. I just received the email for the available classes and I am in training everyone of those days. I'm calling DPS right now and on hold waiting to hear a response. I know we wont be able to teach anymore after December...but I just want to make sure we are still good and not having to go back for the 5 day course again. I also would like to get some answers as to how many classes will be available after the new year

I think Sgt Bamsch said the new class is only 3.5 days so you'll only need and extra couple of days if you have to take the new class over. I suspect they will give you a 1 year grace period but it will be nice to know. :)

No offense to any of the at-risk instructors but if somebody didn't know what's required to renew this year I can't help but think they might learn a thing or two by taking the full class.

If I hadn't been a member here, I wouldn't know what was required. I received zero communication of the renewal requirements from DPS. I know of at least 3 other instructors in this area who also received nothing from DPS regarding renewal requirements. If I hadn't told them, none of us would have gotten the ball rolling in time.

When you filled out the CHL 90, you'd have figured it out.

This is the very reason (I think!) that this forum is so valuable!! Thanks Charles!

True enough, but if I had waited until the end of October, or the first part of November to begin my renewal process, I'd have ended up out in the cold, with not enough time to get the required training.
