Yup, and if there are 2 BG's you just wait until you can get them lined up one behind the other!03Lightningrocks wrote:I am good to go with one round.

Mag-1 and (always) 1 in the chamber

Re: Who carries their gun with a full mag +1?
An old friend of mine used to not keep a round in the chamber of his nightstand gun. He said it was so that if anyone ever broke into his home that he thought the sound of him racking the slide might give the BG the chance to change his mind and run away. I told him that's why I locked my doors. The locked door was going to be that guy's last warning. He has since gotten his CHL and also carries with a round in the chamber.

It would help if the caliber was .44 Mag and up. I don't think it would work so well with a .380.texanjoker wrote:Make sure we get Youtube video of the shot..that would be epic.Excaliber wrote:Yup, and if there are 2 BG's you just wait until you can get them lined up one behind the other!03Lightningrocks wrote:I am good to go with one round.

I got two squirrels with one pellet once. Does that count?Excaliber wrote:It would help if the caliber was .44 Mag and up. I can't imagine any reason why anyone wouldn't carry with one in the pipe. Those I've known that don't are usually because they're new to carrying and haven't gotten over the fear of carrying with it ready to shoot. If you don't, you had better hope that you have time to rack the slide.

That's why holsters that cover the trigger with good retention are made. Particularly if they are IWB.cb1000rider wrote:Young kids. They're like bumper cars at waist level.Jim88 wrote:I can't imagine any reason why anyone wouldn't carry with one in the pipe.

And...cb1000rider wrote:Young kids. They're like bumper cars at waist level.Jim88 wrote:I can't imagine any reason why anyone wouldn't carry with one in the pipe.
I've always carried with one in the pipe and have carried since my kids were waist level. Never an issue. In fact whenever we would leave the house there would be at least one of the kids tapping my waist to see if I was carrying, if they didn't feel anything they would give me the evil eye and insist I go get it.
If you pull the trigger on any of my guns (that I don't hand you) it's going to go bang. Therefore all the guns are kept in holsters that cover the trigger and are either on my body or in the safe (still holstered).
Thinking that an unchambered loaded handgun is somehow safer provides said person a false sense of security around children and may well get said person killed when he most needs his firearm.
That being said, to each his own and hopefully the BGs out there don't carry with one in the pipe either.

Re: Who carries their gun with a full mag +1?
How? Mine are old enough to pull a trigger, but not rack a slide. It's not a sense of security, it's an added layer of delay. It'd give me a longer period of time to react if one of them managed to get tangled up in it. I can't see how that would happen, but literally it can be bumper cars around these guys. And yes, we're starting to teach gun safety and they're old enough to understand, but young enough not to be trusted.jmra wrote: Thinking that an unchambered loaded handgun is somehow safer provides said person a false sense of security around children
I get that a gun that isn't "ready" can delay being able to fire and that such a condition is a tactical disadvantage..
My holsters all cover the trigger and retain well.. I appreciate those suggestions.

You should see how big parents eyes get when they find out they were wrong about that one.cb1000rider wrote:Mine are old enough to pull a trigger, but not rack a slide.
Like I said earlier, to each his own.

+1 on that. I've also seen parents eyes in the ER when their 2y old shows them how they opened that child proof medicine bottle. They'll be able to do it way before you know it. They may not have done it yet, but they probably can figure out a way to do it that you/we hadn't thought of.jmra wrote:You should see how big parents eyes get when they find out they were wrong about that one.cb1000rider wrote:Mine are old enough to pull a trigger, but not rack a slide.

Re: Who carries their gun with a full mag +1?
Yep, and I can assure you I said everything I could to try and convince my buddy I planned it that way. Truth be told, these two squirrels were fighting and chasing each other around. The second guy ran beside the first guy just as the pellet went through the first guys body. One of those weird things that can never be planned. The lesson I learned from that lucky shot was to always be aware of what is behind my target. Be it a squirrel, deer or bad guy.Excaliber wrote:Absolutely!
