Help me with a project: Unscientific poll on carry

Working on a personal project, so I'm posting this poll to a few forums. If you see this poll elsewhere, please only answer it once.

To clarify the options:
1) Everywhere legally: This means you have law enforcement or other credentials that allow you to carry virtually anywhere without restrictions

2) Everywhere, ignoring legal and policy restrictions: This means you carry everywhere, even if your credentials (most of us that would be a CHL) would ban carry. For instance, for Texas, this would mean you carry, with a CHL in a bar. Also choose this if you carry without a CHL if one is required by law.

3) Everywhere legal, ignoring policy restrictions: Choose this if you follow the law to the best of your knowledge, but you choose to ignore, for instance, a workplace restriction on carrying that might result in disciplinary action, but no legal action

4) Everywhere legal, and within policy

5) Only when I think i'm going somewhere I feel is dangerous

6) I have a CHL but rarely carry: Choose this if you got a CHL for reasons other than to carry, for instance, to bypass NICS checks.

7) I don't have a CHL and I don't want one.

If you don't have a CHL, but are in the process of getting one, feel free to answer the poll about how you WOULD carry or behave.

I am kind of split between within policy and not. I would not want to risk my job for the sake of carrying, but being jobless at the moment . . .

When I worked for a company who's handbook hinted that anyone who carried a weapon (firearm) would be fired, I still carried... no ask, no tell; not every day mind you, but a good 80% of the time.

Now I carry everywhere that I'm legal!

Aside from work, I would carry anywhere it was legal.

No job or business is worth my life, but then again my life is worth more than a job or someones business...

Policy is not the law...

If the law says you can, or cannot...Then I believe thats pretty clear...

I've never been in a single situation where I needed a gun and I really hope I never will be. But if that day ever does happen my gun will be with me. That's for certain.

I think you're missing a big practical gap between number four and five. If "within policy" in a particular situation means that an employee may not have a firearm in his or her vehicle on company property--and most times that means large, gated grounds or a gated parking garage with consent to search granted by employment...also implying there may be no good options to park elsewhere--staying "within policy" means that an employee is forced to severely limit legally-allowed carry outside the workplace facility.

For some, a 45-minute commute to and from work is common, and that means you are unarmed during the drive. If you choose to leave work for lunch, you are unarmed. If you travel to other locations for work during the day, but are at "home base" for any time, you're unarmed. If you choose to go to dinner or shopping or a movie with friends directly after work, you're unarmed.

"Within policy" may mean that, for much of your waking life outside your home, you are unarmed. Like it or not. And a "change jobs" response would be naive. Think of all the people working highly specialized jobs at NASA, for example.

So there really is a category of, "Wish I could carry everywhere legally allowed, but obeying company policy means I can do that only a small percentage of the time."

I voted the 2nd option.

I carry everywhere legally, but there are a few exceptions. As for work, I am a IF Pharmacist who works at a pharmacy that has been robbed 10+ in the past 6 months (25 in the past year...it was real bad around the holidays). To top it off, its in the middle of a teaching hospital on a university campus.....so technically can't carry there.

I fought and won to be allowed to carry at work. Only took like 3 months of daily phone calls and letters (Andy Dufresne style).

I also carry where it could be especially dangerous, even if illegal. If you act right, keep it concealed, its not there. But if you need it, its there and you are good to go, so to speak. I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried out by 6.

I had to vote #3 as there is currently no policy at my job. May soon change though as my boss is selling.

For the record, I strive to comply with actual law, but I was never one to have a slavish adherence to mere rules.
