Somewhere along the line ALL politicians need to come to the point of recognizing they are not the only one in the game. Eisenhower (Republican) made deals with LBJ to move the country forward. Ronald Reagan made deals with the Great Liberal Tip O'Neil. We need to recognize that Affordable Care Act was passed into law no matter how bad the process smelled. As long as Obama is President it will remain law, so the question should be what reasonable efforts can be made to rein it in to reduce it's impact.

The problem with Obamacare law is that it was like taking a car that needed a major tune up and replacing the engine with an engine that has a crack in the block. It will run for a time and may even appear to run better. But it won't last long and when it goes it is going to be catastrophic. We will then have a single payer system and then the government will completely control all aspects of healthcare.OldGrumpy wrote:Charles L. No... Nothing against medicare specifically.Cedar Park Dad wrote:Once the ACA is fully implemented it will be nearly impossible to repeal. Evidence SS, Medicare, Food Stamps, Welfare, Dept of Education, etc.
All this talk about the "blame for a government shutdown" is such bile it's hard to contain my disgust.
Obamacare is so bad, it's worth a shutdown. If avoiding a shut down means that a few more RINO's can get elected, well, are we really that much better off?
Some fights are worth fighting.
Whats wrong with Medicare? Are you against Medicare?
I'm just a strong believer that if government wasn't doing it we would have found a better way do do it at less cost.
Medicare (and SS) is something we've all paid for.... I would not knock anyone for making use of it.
But, If I invented a better way to tackle all of the things that medicare covered, what's the chance I could ever get it implemented?
Hence my angst over the ACA.

Wow, six pages in less than 12 hours. Some kinda record?
What's interesting is this "sky is falling" rhetoric about the government shutdown. A Budget was approved with everything EXCEPT ACA funding. A government shutdown is the current administration's equivalent of holding a gun to our heads. Oh wait; these are democrats so it is the equivalent of holding a shotgun to the closed door that we're standing behind.

Ok then. I disagree with them, but that is cool and follows tradition in epic Republic fashion.

I thought she was the darling of the Democratic party. I appear to be misinformed. If so, then I wonder who on the D ticket will run (and on the R ticket for that matter).Charles L. I'm interested in your reasoning on why you think Davis (why does my head say Brown when I type that - yikes) won't take a statewide race?
If this isn't appropriate for the thread we can take private.

I have a two friends who through no fault of their own cannot get health insurance. They are naturally big Obama supporters.
I stay pretty quiet about this subject on facebook as not to offend them, as I feel very sorry they are in the situation they are in.
One person wrote earlier that Obamacare was like buying a new car when you only need a tune up. This is sort of my view. I will pay a lot more for the coverage I have and will probably get worse care when I do need it. I suspect we will have the British system in a few years.
I applaud Ted for his actions.
One thing, he is not a guy who disappointed you after he got elected.
I get posts from the a Boston Newspaper now, since the bombing there. They asked what people felt about Ted and his filabuster, I was going to post their responses here, but I could not because of the language.
I realize there are a lot of people out there who disagree with my views, not only on guns, but other important matters as well.
It is hard to believe a free people will choose voluntarily to be less free and be happy about their choice.

So I just don't understand. When I graduated high school, I had no desire for college so I went to work. I moved out of my dad's home and that is where my health care ended. I went down to State Farm and got me a health insurance policy. It wasn't cheap but it was important so I did it. I started working for companies that offered health insurance. I got married to my high school sweetheart. She had some medical issues that came up and we never wanted the "pre existing condition" tag, so in 22 years of wedded bliss, we've never gone without health care. I don't want DMV health care. Please, don't give me "free health care"

One friend had a first seizure in college, had to quit. Can't drive. Was covered by their parents insurance. That ran out at 25. Has trouble having a regular job with the unexpected seizures.Wodathunkit wrote:philip964 wrote:I have a two friends who through no fault of their own cannot get health insurance. The other was a real estate agent, covered by spouses insurance, got diabetes from a gall stone that got stuck and did not pass, wrecked the pancreas. The spouse lost that job and COBRA ran out.
I had a women friend who wanted to change health insurance companies. They did the normal health research, got a letter back from the new company saying that her past mamograms were unusual, not cancerous, just unusual. They used the word "fiberous". So they would cover her, but not her breasts. I saw the letter it actually said that. So if she had not taken care of herself and not ever had a mamogram, they would have accepted both her and her breasts.
Just don't get me started about the British or Canadian system.

Re: Cornyn and McConnell Will Not Back Ted Cruz
If indeed a large percentage of the people in this nation, many of which are NOT happy with Obamacare, have a problem with Ted Cruz, it is because of the mass media Democrat Party propaganda machine telling them to have a problem with him. It doesn't matter what the Republican Party does; the media will scream through their megaphone that the Republican Party caused every problem under the sun. I really don't understand the Republican Party national leadership, and I guess I never will. I'm just a veteran and a mechanic, and not "educated" enough to run in those rarefied circles of political intrigue and backroom trickery. There is something seriously sick with a lot of the top dogs in this nation, in both parties. Its not like they are doing it because they care; they obviously don't. Its not like they are simply doing it for money; they are all wealthy enough to do whatever they want. So, I guess its just about power, the need to control and lord over others. And I'll never be able to fully grasp what causes folks to be like that. I was raised to be proud of the USA as a nation, trained to be a team player by the USAF, and to do my best to take care of the folks I was supposed to be leading...for better or worse, that is how I judge others.

Re: Cornyn and McConnell Will Not Back Ted Cruz
The bottom line on Cruz is that he's got the right idea. If the republican establishment won't get on board, then they need to get out of the way. If they won't get out of the way, them they need to be made to do so (through election). For the sake of Texas, I sincerely hope Cornyn gets on board.
The so-called government shut down is just another liberal media bogeyman created to bully any congressman who dares to oppose the occupant at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Essential services will still be provided. The nation won't go undefended. Schools won't close. People won't go hungry. The sky won't fall. The sun will continue to rise in the east. We've gone through so-called shut downs before & we're still here (with a government of unprecedented size, by the way).
And lastly, my family's experience with the beginning of the occupant care nightmare. My wife's insurance premium will increase by almost $650 per month. The only way to keep that increase off of our backs is to increase the deductible from $2500 to $9000. Unfortunately, my wife is under court order to maintain health insurance for her oldest son. So simply dropping coverage isn't an option, even though paying the new premium or increasing the deductible basically amount to the same end result.

Let's see-We're broke but the government hands out foreign aid all over the world. When I ponder this situation, I get an image of a man that can’t afford medical care for his family but gives his neighbor money for their medical care.baldeagle wrote:Apparently you haven't noticed that we're broke? We are still “rebuilding” Iraq and I don’t know what we are doing in Afghanistan.
Why aren’t people yelling for the government to cut foreign aid? Why doesn’t the government close the military bases in countries where they don’t like us and don’t want us? Close the bases in those countries and relocate them to towns in the U.S. that would love to have them. Use the troops to patrol our borders. Then we could stop sending billions and people to Mexico to “help them fight the drug war”.
We need to stop playing “world cop” and get our own act together. I am serious about my question, Why aren’t people yelling for the government to cut foreign aid?
Everyone is running around screaming “the economy is about to fail”. “Stock up on food and ammo”. Then why the h don’t people do something about it before it happens? People should be marching in the streets demanding we get out of NATO and stop giving them billions of dollars. I know the answer to "Then why the h don’t people do something about it? but no one want to hear it.
God Bless America, and please hurry.
