Re: Poll: Spouse's Feelings On Carrying
At first my wife did not like the idea of a gun even in the house but accepted it as she was not going to change my mind. Then she did not like the idea of my getting a CHL but accepted it. Then she didnt like the idea that I carried everywhere, including church but again accepted it. Then one day she and my daughter were alone at their shop (dog groomers) and a couple of "young men" came in and was walking around and trying to position themselves where they could see all of the back area (assuming to see if anyone else was there). She called me and fortunatly I was at my office (less than 3 minutes away). These "young men" were still there when I walked in but as soon as she said "honey can you stay here while I go get lunch" they decided to leave.
That night she asked what she needed to do to get her license. Her and my daughter both took the class and got them at the same time. She even put a sign up in the window that says "WE DON'T CALL 911, WE CALL 1911". Funny thing, she only lost 1 customer because of that sign.
Now for the kicker, their shop is directly across the street from the police station. A lot of their customers are LEO and all have said that they would get less response there because all officers are out on patrol. Of course they laugh after saying it though.

Re: Poll: Spouse's Feelings On Carrying
When we were dating, 20+ years ago, the first time she came to my house she saw the gun cabinet and said "I don't know if I can live in a house with guns in it.
I took her shooting on our honeymoon.
She aced her initial CHL written test, and has aced both written and shooting twice since.

Re: Poll: Spouse's Feelings On Carrying
My wife has her CHL but doesn't routinely carry, though she always has her gun in the car with her.
When I'm out of town she always has my gun on the nightstand next to the bed.
The only shot she's ever taken at me was once when she saw me clipping my extra mags on my belt and asked "Expecting a gunfight?" I replied "If I were expecting a gunfight, we wouldn't be going."
Since then she's actually patted my side a few times as we were heading out and said "Just checking."

My wife and I got our CHL at the same time - and my 5-year old daughter has her own pink Crickett .22 rifle. That means both of the ladies in my house are supportive.

Re: Poll: Spouse's Feelings On Carrying
I carry when I/we are traveling, not so much at home. My wife is fine with that.
Re: Poll: Spouse's Feelings On Carrying
Spouse always tries to steal my guns and complains I don't buy her more guns.

Re: Poll: Spouse's Feelings On Carrying
The poll is missing the option that describes my situation:
Spouse doesn't care that I carry...
Spouse doesn't care that I carry...
I cling to my God — Jesus Christ.
I love my wife and kids.
I am proud to be an American and Texan.
And... I cling to my guns.

Try the one that says "ambivalent"ATDM wrote:The poll is missing the option that describes my situation:

My wife is happy that I carry and supports me in that.
Hello. My name is Red and I used to carry a .45. Now I carry a 9mm and it's getting easier to admit every day.
Re: Poll: Spouse's Feelings On Carrying
I thought about that, because it's the closest thing, but that's not what the word "ambivalent" means. Ambivalent means being conflicted on a subject or having contradicting convictions or opinions on a specific subject or person, for example: my wife is happy that I carry, because I can defend my family and myself, but she is also very worried that someone might hurt me with my own gun.Reds45ACP wrote:

That's not how my wife feels, but that's an example of ambivalent.
So, I just posted that my wife simply doesn't care one way or another. But I am working on convincing her to carry as well.

Re: Poll: Spouse's Feelings On Carrying
I confess that in creating the poll I butchered the English language. Thanks for educating me.ATDM wrote:I thought about that, because it's the closest thing, but that's not what the word "ambivalent" means. Re: Poll: Spouse's Feelings On Carrying
Not sure how to respond to the poll...
My wife will never carry.
I respect her wishes.
She laughs at me sometimes.
I don't care.
Deep down she likes it. (laughing at me and that I don't f around)
She supports everything I do related to guns, even though she doesn't care.
She knows I have a "gun" account.
She knows I spend more than I should on gun "stuff".
She supports my gun related business.
We talk daily on biz issues, planning, advertising, and She supports the biz.
I have an ammo jar next to the change jar on the dryer and she sorts.
I talked her into buying land to have a private range.
She loves the land, just doesn't want me to shoot anything on it.
She loves bacon wrapped dove with jalapenos.
She loves venison fried steak.
I love my wife.
I didn't see that on the poll. :)
