Re: Letter to Governor Rick Perry
I agree that Perry has signed every piece of gun legislation that has landed on his desk, yet he talks a very strong 2A stance but will not "push" for more during a special session, he doesn't seem to go after 2A bills instead he just waits for them to hit his desk, if he wanted more for us then he would get it for us...end of story.KC5AV wrote:And every frustrated gun owning Texas would do well to look at the track record that Perry has amassed over the years. Is there any pro-gun legislation that he has failed to sign?Zoo wrote:They had time for other issues but not for campus carry or 30.06 reform. Every gun owning Texan would do well to remember that next time Perry talks about supporting CHL.
We made gains this session. They just weren't all the ones that we wanted. We all need to keep in mind that we are a very small segment of the population. We shouldn't start questioning Governor Perry's commitment to gun owners just because he fails to add our pet causes to a special session.
These are not "pet" causes for me, if they are "pet" causes for you then maybe you would fit right in with the Austin crowd... need gas money for the trip?

Look at all of the wing-nut bills that were filled & never saw the light of day. Acting like a bunch of spoiled brats who didn't get every single thing on their Christmas list isn't likely to help our cause next session.
The thing is, this has been going on for at least the last 3 session. The bills get filed, overwhelming support, yet they never get out of committee. This was Perry's chance to walk the walk, and he did nothing. I don't consider shorter classes, no renewal class and some miscellaneous law clarifications as any significant advance for CHL's.

So when should we expect the announcement of your candidacy for the legislature?JJVP wrote:TexasCajun wrote:Is it disappointing? You bet. There's a very good reason. He doesn't want campus carry to be legal. I'm not sure I blame him.GEM-Texas wrote:I don't regard campus carry as a pet issue. If one looks at consequences - the few people who might get in legal trouble for an unintentional exposure are not as important as preventing 30 young people from being killed.
There was no reason for Perry not to actively (using his powers) to let the representatives of the people to vote on this.

Guess you didn't read the letter that Charles wrote to Perry. Hint, is the first post on this thread. Here are a few excerpts of that letter.TexasCajun wrote:So when should we expect the announcement of your candidacy for the legislature?JJVP wrote:TexasCajun wrote:Is it disappointing? You bet. Talk the talk, but not walk the walk.Your support for reducing the off-limits areas for Texas concealed handgun licensees is not motivated solely to prevent mass murders by evil people seeking their fifteen minutes of fame. When we talked during the last campaign, you noted that every Texan is a potential victim and that the long-standing excellent track record earned by Texas concealed handgun licensees makes it clear that the legislature must remove unnecessary and outdated restrictions on where these honest Texans may defend themselves and their families. You renewed your call “that every Texan with a concealed handgun license should be able to carry their handguns everywhere in this State.”
Again, no action by Perry. All we want is a chance for a vote. A minority in the legislature have for the last few session have prevented even that opportunity. It was Perry's chance to give us that opportunity for a vote. He refused. Now that a special session has been called, I respectfully request that you stand up for Texas gun owners as you have done in the past by adding to the following subject matter to the call:
1. Comprehensive campus-carry;
2. Elimination of virtually all remaining off-limits areas for Texas concealed handgun licensees (HB3218); and
3. Prohibition on the use of unenforceable 30.06 signs by governmental entities and agencies (HB508).

If he doesn't, then he needs to stop making statements like the one Charles quoted in his letter ("every Texan with a concealed handgun license should be able to carry their handguns everywhere in this State.”)Texas Sheepdog wrote:There's a very good reason. If he doesn't want campus carry, then he needs to be a man and say so. Perry consistently pounds his chest proclaiming he is 2nd amendment crusader so its not surprising that his supporters would expect him to act like it.Texas Sheepdog wrote:There's a very good reason. I don't know why anybody is surprised. He has a history of talking big but folding when the chips are down.

Re: Letter to Governor Rick Perry
Honestly I see no difference between Perry and an Anti, except of course the anti is at least honest about what they are want to do. All he had to do was add these thing to the special session and let the chips fall where they will and if it failed then so be it but nope he failed, so next election I will vote for anyone but him. I hope his political career dies in a ball of flames.

Re: Letter to Governor Rick Perry
The big difference is an Anti-RKBA governor would veto pro gun bills. Perry will usually sign them or let them pass unmolested. That's a far cry from actively supporting gun owners' civil rights, but it's also far better than having Jerry Brown or Andrew Cuomo in that seat.suthdj wrote:Honestly I see no difference between Perry and an Anti, except of course the anti is at least honest about what they are want to do. That still doesn't mean I'll vote for him for any office ever again if a HB3218 equivalent isn't on his call.

Re: Letter to Governor Rick Perry
Being in the business, I certainly do blame him for not supporting campus carry. I also see no logic or data against this proposition. If you can protect yourself at the mall, on the street or in your place of worship - why cannot students, faculty and staff?
If you think these folks cannot have this option - an ethical person would not support carry in other places or carry themselves.
Perry had political reasons and bowed to pressure not to act, despite the above mentioned quote.
Not a principled position on his part.
