Gunsmith in N. Dallas area?
Finished my first ar build and would like an experienced gunsmith to look it over, verify headspace, etc. before I fire it for the first time. Can anyone recommend one? I am in the carrollton/the colony area

I've never dealt with either of these, but the 2 that come to mind in your area are Doc's Guns which is just East of I-35E on Sandy Lake/Whitlock and STS(?) on the Southeast corner of Beltline and Josey.

I've heard mixed reviews on Docs...never heard of the other place. Will check them out.

Gunmaster on Avenue K (south of Sam's) in Plano has a smith that can do a full checkout on the gun. Not sure about AmmoToGo (SW corner of Parker and 75).

It's SPS, not SKS. Just now looked it up.

The one and only time I visited SPS, the guy behind the counter said that they had a required depost of 75.00 for any firearm logged in for potential repair. Should the suggested repairs be performed, that 75.00 up front fee would be deducted from the repair price.
Should you, the customer, decline their estimate, there is still this pesky 75.00 obligation for you to resolve.

Gunmaster did a great job on my shotgun.
Was not cycling rounds. Another guy wanted $100 just to look at it.
Gunmasters took a quick peek, recommended a $8 spring.
No problems since.

Gunmaster in Plano. Nice folks. Know their stuff. Ask for Charles. Ex military and has done great work on my .45 modifications and help with a really gunked up Beretta duck gun.
