Wives question of liability.

My wife had a question this weekend after I had to walk back to the truck to disarm.
She asked me if I had heard any discussion of legal liability, or heard of anyone holding the owners of an establishment liable for making someone disarm before entering said establishment and then have a shooter come in and the CHL not able to defend himself or anyone else.
This all came up after having to disarm before entering IKEA, she has gotten used to me being armed and feels safer when I am, she said it gave her kind of an odd feeling watching me make the walk back to the truck and walking around knowing I could do nothing to protect her from a shooter.
What say those smarter than I.

I do not know of any case law of civil liability. I am sure at some point there will be a law suit to establish a precident though.

Legally, I have no idea.. I know that they aren't forcing you to be there though. You are free to go elsewhere.
My thoughts though.. I think if they go out of their way to tell you that you aren't allowed to have it, then they should assume responsibility for the safety of their customers. If you are put in a situation where they have created an unsafe environment, I would say that they should be held responsible. Not sure how it would go legally...

My thoughts are that it is the same liability as if a mirror fell off of the wall and hit you. Just my .02

That is the exact reason why I will never go there. They choose to post 30.06, I choose to not shop there.

I understand, but the wife wanted to look for something she saw on an add....she asked me while we were walking around,"Why would they not want someone here that could provide protection if needed?" I told her you can't fix stupid.

The one time we went to IKEA I was unaware of their no gun policy. Saw the 30.06, turned around and headed for car. My wife said "where are you going?" I told her if she wanted to still go in I would wait in the car. She was in about 15 minutes and came back and said she would never go back there. I said good because if she was ever coming back, it would be without me! Since I've had my CHL, IKEA and a major hospital are the only two valid 30.06 signs I've seen in person. If I ever do see another, I will not go in and not go back. I'm sure they don't care about one lost customer, but I refuse to support any business that puts my life in danger by trying to unarm me!

Where was the Ikea located? The Ikea in Frisco does not have a 30.06 sign posted, or I must have missed it.

If my poor memory serves me right the Frisco location does have a 30.06 sign posted - but I really had to look for it. I only remember because I had a discussion with my wife that I wouldn't be able to carry in the store once I got my CHL.

Last time I was at the Frisco location, which was about a year ago, they only had gunbuster signs. I think the one in Houston though does have the correct signage.
