My app took 44 days box to box. Wife is on day 54 and still in BG...go figure.

It cause DPS has not entered my application in the system yet. I did the mail in app.

Just received a call (6:00pm) from a very nice lady in Austin from Texas DPS asking if it was ok to use my driver's license photo. Apparently the conversation I had with my state representatives chief of staff did some good. The DPS rep on the phone stated I have cleared background check, I was approved, it was being queued for manufacturing, it would be mailed within 24 hours and expect it within 7 days.

I would swear a friend was playing a sick joke but she gave me her contact email and phone number. :hurry: :hurry: :hurry: :hurry:

My online status hasn't changed either. Like I told my wife "with my luck something will get lost and it takes 3 more weeks."

Huh. It wouldn't surprise me if the online status system is borked. Guess we will see.

Today is 7 weeks and still have yet to be entered in the system. I called yesterday and gave them the tracking number and they told me that my app and packet was received. I just think its bull that people who mailed their docs off 2 weeks after me are already in BG check while DPS has yet to even enter my app in the system. I was told also that it is NOT a first come first serve basis.
2/26-Mailed paper app and packet.
5/20-Plastic in hand.
83 days mailbox to mailbox.

To pass on information the lady gave me yesterday..... Just because something is not updated it does not mean that it's not being worked on or completed. eg: She assured me that my I'm through background check, it was issued and queued for manufacturing. However, the only thing that changed on the DPS website is my fingerprints show completed. Due to the recent high volume the focus is processing apps not updating statuses.

When I called I talked to Rebecca and she said she don't see my info in the system, so yeah they have yet to start on my app.

We've been in touch over the last week with our Texas State Representative and thankfully he's been listening to us. We've sent him correspondence, or the lack thereof, with DPS over the last week and his office has been reviewing it. We have a call with his office today at 2. Our major concern is
a.) We paid $140 + fingerprinting+CHL class fee and have had no reply from DPS in 41 days.
b.) Since we know that DPS signed for the packets 41 days ago, why aren't they in the system. There is some HIGHLY sensitive personal information in those packets, so what is being done with them and where are they...since we have no replies to any of our inquiries.

If you are in a similar situation, please contact your Texas State Representative. They WILL listen and do something about it. You can find your Texas State Rep using this link:
http://www.house.state.tx.us/members/fi ... sentative/

I agree that the state should jump in and figure out why they are so slow. DPS says its getting 15-17k apps a month, take the low end 15k and times it by $140, comes out to 2,100,000.00 per month DPS is making. Now I know that not everyone is paying the full $140 fee but you can bet that DPS is banking at least 1.5 million a month. With that kind of money there is NO reason they cannot hire more help or invest in better system.

Day 36 for me since DPS has signed for my mailed in app and complete packet, no update and not in the system.

The problem with this argument is that DPS doesn't get this money. It doesn't increase their budget. Our application fees go to general fund in state. DPS still has to work within their normal budget. Makes thing pretty hard for DPS!

I would agree - NOT a first come first serve basis, but more accurately, not ANY kind of basis. NONE. There is no explanation, no pattern, no logic, no nothing. We send in our information to some black hole of "overwhelmed" government employees who take however long they want and there isn't anything anyone can do about it. Sound farmiliar? The whole argument about "15k-17k applicants" is so tired and lame. If so many of the public are investing time and money in a particular government service, than the government should allocate or refocus some additional resources here to supplement the demand. The entire CHL program is pathetically managed. Plain and simple.

And for the record, I mailed all my stuff in on Feb 3rd and am still under "Background Review" - so I'm right there with ya.
