Start online app or wait for disposition?

#1

Post by Bethstang »

Hi
This past weekend I attended my CHL class and passed the test. I did have a arrest in 1994 for misdemeanor possession of marijuana that was dismissed, I already sent my check to the County Clerks office for my disposition, but I have not received it yet, should I get the online application started or wait until I have the disposition?

Thanks
Beth

Proceed. DPS will let you know if they want to see copies of the case paperwork. Besides, if you file your application today, It will be at least 3 weeks before DPS even opens your application to begin working on it. Good luck.

Do the application online. When the application is processed online, you get a checklist of documents to send to DPS. If they want the document, it'll be on the checklist. If it isn't on the checklist, send the rest of the documents off. During the background check, if DPS wants to see paperwork, they'll contact you to get the disposition. By that time, you should have it in hand. Do the application now!! Good luck!

I agree with doing the app online and then sending the disposition when you get it.

Do you get the checklist if you do the online app only? I did the mail in app, will I get a check list once they process my app?

You get the electronic form of the checklist when you do the application online. I am not sure whether you will get an actual checklist after DPS receives your mail application. Also, if you do your application online, you get a link to have your fingerprints scheduled. So if you mail your application, you have to wait till DPS gets it, gets the application in the system, and then they get the paperwork to you to get your fingerprints done. So you might have your disposition in hand before you even get your fingerprints done if you mailed in the application.
