Why do I need an assault rifle?

I have a CHL, and several semiauto 9mm handguns, a few revolvers, two defensive 12 gauge shotguns, and a Taurus Circuit Judge, 45lc/410 shotgun/carbine/revolver.

As prices have skyrocketed on assault rifles, it seems a steep purchase. Why would I need an assault rifle, besides being angry my right to purchase one may be taken away.?

I reside in a Houston subburb. I do think riots will happen when the economy collapes; so do I need one when an entire Section 8 Housing Project invades my home or is that extreeme paranoia ?. I am answering my own question, maybe.

I think it comes down to what you feel you need. Only you can decide that. A shot gun is a good weapon as well and easy to use.

Well, assault rifles are extremely expensive to buy. I mean, you'd have to set up an NFA trust, go through ATF approval, pay the tax stamp, and then there's the cost of the rile itself which can be as little as $1300 for a cheap, poor condition M16 or as much as $20,000 for a relatively perfect condition assault rifle.

Frankly, I'd thnk an AR-15 would be significantly cheaper.

I was thinking the same thing! An assault weapon with a high capacity magazine is a very expensive purchase unless you join the Army...they will let you use one of theirs in far a way lands.

Now if you want to ask why one should have a modern sporting rifle with a standard capacity magazine that is a whole other response.

The question you should be asking is, "why not?" If you are a gun aficionado, you would want one simply to appreciate the handling characteristics, the mechanical workings, and the hidden simplicity in them. Why own black powder guns that have no inherent value other than plinking at a range? Unless you appreciate guns, you may not have a reason to own one. That's what people don't understand; you don't really need a reason just to enjoy something. I have a friend who has a .50 BMG rifle. You think he bought it for a particular need, or just to enjoy it?
