Amazing story.

Great story of heroism and sacrifice. Wish we'd never had to hear it, if you get what I mean...

Inspiring if true. But according to multiple reports at the time, the two former Seals were killed by a mortar round at that annex. They weren't killed by being overwhelmed by the attacking forces. I am not saying this is false but it is not consistent with reports at the time. I hope at least the part about them killing large numbers of the attackers is true.

You're assuming the mortar round story is true. Why?

Not assuming anything. It may be the mortar story is wrong. But likewise, the story you posted could be wrong. This whole Benghazi thing is so covered in misinformation, who knows what to trust.

However the mortar story was widely reported in the press at the time and for quite a while afterward, including pretty detailed accounts of both the attack on the embassy and the later attack on the annex. And I don't know anything about the credentials of the guy writing the story you posted.

Do I know which is true? Nope. Do you?

One thing that is clear in both accounts is that the two former Seals were heroes who went to the aid of the embassy and helped save a number of people. And that they were sacrificed by the President, the Defense and State Secretaries and the top commanders in the military. You should read Bing West's articles on this.

In the end, no matter what these former Seals were heroes worthy of the highest praise!

I don't know this guy from Adam - I do know the Press. In this case I will go with the unknown.

What I want to know is if those two men were given an order to stand down, and if so why? If so, why did they not stand down?

None of the stories I've seen so far make a lick of sense, which suggests bogosity somewhere.

As Mark Twain observed, "Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn't."

I don't think we have heard the real story yet; somebody was doing something they don't want anyone else to know about, or something.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

The version that I heard is that they were EVENTUALLY killed by mortar rounds hours after starting observation of the whole incident.

And isn't part of the whole Benghazi issue the fact HRC only allowed the security team to have less-lethal ammunition?

Sorry, I ain't buying it. This "refutation" wants you to believe that two Navy SEALs who fought for hours before dying didn't kill a single person? That stretches credulity beyond the breaking point.

I'll put it this way. We'll probably never know what really happened in Benghazi, but I guarantee you those SEALs took some enemy with them. Guaranteed.

The refutation doesn't say that they went alone into the dark. What it addresses is this:

"Eventually, these two courageous men were overwhelmed by the sheer numbers brought against them, an enemy force numbering between 100 to 200 attackers which came in two waves. But the stunning part of the story is that Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty killed 60 of the attacking force. Once the compound was overrun, the attackers were incensed to discover that just two men had inflicted so much death and destruction on their numerically superior force."
text from the original RiponRoots blog.

They didn't die at the Consulate, they weren't over whelmed by mass attacks, the died during a motar attack, at the CIA annex 1.2 miles away, they weren't alone, a reaction team from Tripoli had managed to enter Benghazi, one member of the Tripoli team was in fact Glen Doherty, so it would have been impossible for him to have been at the Consulate or to have fought for four hours at his friend's side.

Were the actions undertaken by Woods and Doherty heroic, yes. Is the info provided in the blogpost true, no. Remember the real men, acknowledge their very real and heroic actions, don't support falsehood that could lead to the ridicule of their sacrifice.
