Kahr PM45 or Springfield XDS

#1

Post by RX8er »

I am looking for your thoughts on Kahr PM45 versus the Springfield XDS. I have even thought about the PM40 too.

I am looking for a small platform for my EDC using IWB holster, probably a super or mini tuck.

Feel free to offer something different as well.

They are similar in size & weight (or at least close enough it won't make any difference carried IWB) The distinguishing features are the triggers. The Kahr has a long, smooth trigger pull resembling a revolver with a trigger job. The XDs is a striker type design. If you have any preference/experience with a Glock/XD type pistol then you're likely going to prefer the XDs. If you come from a revolver background then you might prefer the long smooth pull on the Kahr. The only other item that might influence your decision is the Springfield's ability to change the backstrap allowing some adjustment for larger hands. I've shot and carried both, and I stayed with the Kahr simply because I already possessed the extra mags and holsters for carry. YMMV :fire

XDS hands down. Not even close.

I've had bad luck with polymer-framed Kahrs in calibers starting with a "4"

The XDS shoots like a dream by comparison, and the comparative build quality is obvious the first time you pick one up.

Glad to hear this. Just picked up a XDS this morning. Hope to try her out tomorrow.

I have a XDs and a smaller caliber Kahr. While I like the Kahr immensely, the tighter tolerances mean that it's more picky about ammo than the Springfield. I carry the XDs daily, not only since it's chambered in a larger caliber than my Kahr, because I feel the more forgiving tolerances actually makes it more reliable. You can't go wrong with either. I'd go with what feels better in your hand and see if you can fire both.

Neither with the XDs. It's a DAO.

Although I've had nothing but good luck with Kahrs in calibers beginning with a "4," I would agree that the XDS is a much nicer pistol than either a CM45 or a CW45. The Kahr is a very good gun at the price point, and I don't regret having bought mine. But Springfield Armory products are just plain top tier. It wasn't even a rumor yet when I bought my Kahr. If it had been available, I would have probably bought the XDS instead. I bought a XDM a while back, and I've been nothing but impressed with the quality.

Interesting discussions!!!!

I think I know in my mind that I want an XD or I would have walked out with a Kahr. And, while at the gun show today, I kept playing with the XD at the tables and not the Kahr. Most tables had the XD for $600.

I have been shooting the Sig P250 and it's DAO with a very looooooong trigger pull.

Well the Kahr trigger is a lot like the P250 trigger.

I know but I think I want to go back to a short pull. T_B_M has a 2022 and its pull is very short and I like it too.

I've shot my husband's P250 and didn't care for the trigger pull at all. I've also shot a friend's XDs. That is definitely my next gun. I loved the way it felt/shot. Amarillo gun show had one for $700 today...along with many other price gouging deals. I'll stick with my PPS for now and wait til things settle down.

Bought my XDs at the FW show today for $599.

I knew I should picked on up as well. Did you buy it from Bachman? I think they had them for $599 cash or $599 +3% for CC.

Yes I did. Had a friend with me who wanted one. The first one he found was at SAW ($650). He was ready to plunk down the cash. I told him to give me a few min before he bought it. I ran over to Bachman and they had 5 left. Called my friend over and we both bought one.

There were a couple of people ahead of us that were buying the XDs and a couple behind us were getting them. I'm sure they were gone by 10am if not shortly after.

I have found that Bachman has had the best overall pricing during the last few shows. I have been very disappointed in SAW. They used to be priced competively but not anymore.
