I am seeing them show up at Cabela's and Academy. For example, yesterday, Academy had 3 on the shelf at 1030 in the morning but were gone by 1430. They had 2 DPMS and 1 Windham and the guy said that only 1 person was at the store at 0630 waiting to buy. Same is at Cabela's according the one of the gun guys running the nics. Fewer and fewer folks waiting outside for them.

To build a real quality AR, you will be shopping and hunting down parts and maybe the gun show has them... You'll have to weigh the costs to build versus buying one. the prices are going DOWN every day on the two popular gun auction sites. I remember when DPMS Oracle were trading for $1,850 and you could buy them at brick and mortar for $749. The Elk Castle has the same ones now and asking for $2,195. :banghead:

No, I haven't bought one. And I most certainly can't figure out why just about anyone would purchase one.

I bought a bushmaster at walmart.. 950. Price seemed pretty fair so I jumped on it.

For any model, that's a fair price. Which one did you get? Academy has had the Carbon 15 Flat Top (plain) off and on and they were getting $849 I believe.

I bought mine back in June at a good price. My BIL bought nearly the same rifle at almost double the price I bought mine two weeks ago. I tried to talk him out of it, but he's apparently wanted one for a while and figured he'd better get one now and hope they grandfather in the one's that are already out there before they're banned. Anyway, ...

It sounds like folks are deciding that the high premiums that had been placed on some of those rifles aren't really worth it after all.

I'm in the process of putting one together. I'm doing it for one reason (although I'll get other uses out of it). Some politicians (traitors) think I shouldn't have one. Were it not for that, I never would have done this. Frankly, it's the same reason I carry every day. My lifestyle and habits don't often place me in dangerous situations, so the likelihood of me having to exercise my right to self defense is fairly low. But because some politicians think I, a Navy vet with a current secret clearance, a 65 year old law abiding citizen who has never been in trouble with the law, should not be armed in public and should not have a weapon of this kind (AR-15), I'm getting one. And I'm ordering those devilish 30 round magazines too.

I'm buying an upper and lower, and I plan on buying a second upper, in 300 AAC, for hog hunting. Were it not for this traitorous government, I'd be spending my money elsewhere.

Kicking myself in the butt for not getting my AR 3 months ago. Instead I bought a Sig P238 and a Mossberg 30-06. :banghead:

Here's what I'm doing. Ordered a complete upper from SOTA Arms for $509.99 - 8 week wait. It's a 16" 1/9 twist, 5.56 chambered stainless barrel with stainless muzzle brake.

Waiting for New Frontier Armory to start selling their LW-15 polymer complete lowers with buttstock in March for $169.99.

Looking at scopes and mounts now, trying to decide what to do. So, by April I should have a rifle for $680 plus whatever the scope and mount costs. (Looks like that's another $400 or so. So for about $1100, I'll have a nice rifle.)

You can still build one without breaking the bank. You just have to be patient.

I bought one at Academy in December. $920 for a bushmaster. Didn't rally want one until President Obama said I shouldn't have one. Shot it for the first time last week. I need a scope or red dot as I wasn't to sharp with iron sights. Fun to shoot though.

I'm in Killeen. I got the M4a3. So it's got the removable handle and gives me a rail. I shot it last weekend it went bang on every round so I couldn't complain :)

I talked to a local FFL about this very question today. He said to wait a few weeks and more will start showing up again in the stores and the prices are already coming back down closer to normal. At least until the AWB looks closer to passing. My question is if you don't already own one, how long will it take you to stock up on the ammo to feel comfortable?

I have a saiga sgl and always liked the ak more, something about 7.62. I had an ae and sold it in augusy because it jammed too much. It was a bushmaster super light carbine. I bought 30 pmags and 3,000 rounds of ammo around the same time i got the rifle just in case i wanted to get another one i would be set. Seeing 3 50 cal ammo cans full of 5.56 is really making my wallet itch. I work night from 1:00am- 10:00am so the chances of me getting an ar from academy are pretty slim. Paying an extra 300 bucks for an doesnt too bad for me right now. Still on the fence about it.
