Can anyone make contact or get an update?

#1

Post by Mr Wonka »

I'm doing my best to be patient but this is getting ridiculous.

My app was mailed on 8/26/12...

I got a letter at the end of October stating that they were missing docs (they lost them, I triple checked the envelope and checked off my list!)

I've emailed the person handling my application twice and left her a voicemail. I've sent two emails through the website and I've only received the automated response stating that they received my email and will get back to me.

Is anyone else having to deal with this?

I know they are swamped right now with the surge in applicants since Obama declared war on gun owners.

My suggestion is to contact the DPS CHL group at (512) 424-7293 and ask to speak to a supervisor as soon as possible. If the letter stated you had to provide additional documentation within 90 days, then you are past that deadline and could be in jeopardy of being denied and having to resubmit everything all over, including taking the class again.

I've tried calling that number and it just states that they cannot take your call and to submit your question via the website.

I would recommend trying to call in the afternoon later in the week. I've had better success that way.

I called yesterday (1/4/13) around 1pm, waited about 20 min on hold but got a representative on the line. Unfortunately they weren't able to give me much more info than the status check page online. I've been in background check for 12 days and he said that the entire process from the time of them receiving your docs to the time of completion is 60 days, but I've been seeing everybody else in background check for only 3-5 days. I have a lengthy background but sent all the certified docs with the packet and figured that would speed up the process, I guess not!!

Going by your timeline it looks like background review only took you one day! Lucky! I know I'm eligible, last conviction (class b) was 9/9/07, so 5 years was up in 2012. I had 2 DWI arrests, both ended up getting dropped, but I'm hoping they don't try and flip that around and try to make a "chemical dependency issue out of them.

Have you sent replacements for the missing documents?

Yes, I emailed them to her directly and then tried to follow up the next day and I have not heard anything since.

I've tried on several occasions to call dps-chl. Most I waited was about 20min, before hanging up. I can't stay on the phone much longer...got work to do.

Certified mail is the way to go if you need proof. Especially when dealing with government bureaucracy.
