First time to draw...

I did not draw at someone, but this is the closest and scariest moment of my CHL time. So, I'm a College senior and CHL holder Good, smart, honest kid. Not your average College Senior. This is a basic Friday night for me, too. TV and Dinner with my Girlfriend. I have no enemy's or anything. I live in a decent apartment with one roommate. This event happened today (2/8/13).

My girlfriend and I left to get some food to cook for dinner around 6 pm. My roommate was home, in the kitchen with his girlfriend. Not wanting to interrupt, my gf and I left to do our thing, locked the door and after 20 minutes or so, returned...Only the door was unlocked and roommate gone. At the time, I didn't think anything of the incident "Dang it, he left the door unlocked. How dumb." But, about an hour later, 7:30-8 pm, something strange happened. My girlfriend and I were finishing dinner while watching a TV show. Then, someone opened the screen door, and proceeded to open the front door. It being locked, they had some issues. I thought it was my roommate at first. The person tried to open the door 3 times then knocked, but ever so slightly knocked. It seemed like a child or someone who wasn't sure about knocking. I then got up from my recliner, making a pretty loud noise, as I did that the door was tried again. I looked through the peephole and saw no one. Opened the door, with my hand on my weapon, and no one was outside. It was an interesting experience but, to me, that seems like someone tried to break in, no?

Later that night, when my GF put her head on the pillow, she noted how it was weird that my roommate's door was open (it never, ever is) and his side door was cracked (also, never is. Much less used). Making me worried that we stopped someone in the act who was hiding out in there, I drew my weapon and cleared the house.

One thing I learned, I know I need more training. My adrenaline was rolling like crazy and I need to train with a light too. I'm pretty amped up (not shaken or anything like that) about all of this.

I don't know if it was someone just trying the wrong door, honest mistake, or if someone was testing to see if anyone was home in order to gain access. What do y'all think? Too many weird things for me. No cops called, but my apartment manager will see me tomorrow so that she can warn people of suspicious activity.

Oh, I asked him already and he says he does not think he did (He is great about locking it). Everyone can mess up and this isn't his fault, but man. What a night. (I haven't talked to him yet about this - just about the door. He has not been home yet).

*Update* We talked and he's freaked out and even more glad I have a weapon.

But, would that do anything? Nothing was illegal, just creepy as hell. Like I said, i'm going to my apartment manager - she is really good about letting the complex know about suspicious activity and I'm sure she will like to know this.

They could "keep an eye on your area"...

I would think the report could help better your case for when this intruder comes back and you blow his brains out all over your wall.

Glad everything was alright. I had an experience a couple semesters ago that really got my heart racing too. I don't know what your roommate situation is, but I had to sit mine down and talk to him about apartment security and me carrying. I almost pulled on him and one of his friends on two separate occasions because they tried to scare me. It's always nice to have everyone on the same page.

As a college student, I experienced the immaturity of my fellow students.

Though I was generally the same age as my classmates, I had a different (read: harder...) upbringing than most I knew.

I had a difficult time witnessing and be part of their overall childishness.

You have my sympathy.

It's much appreciated. Thankfully I graduated in December and don't have to deal with it anymore. He knew I always carried, but still insisted on trying to scare me in the middle of the night.
