Yep. That quote is from Brass Monkey, who has been absent from this forum for quite some time.

Couple of years ago some new Kerrville residents (from the Left Coast) didn't like hearing gun shots in the city (discharging a firearm or hunting in the city limits is okay :txflag: ) - they thought it was "dangerous" and "somebody is going to get hurt" "rlol" so they petitioned the City Council about the dangerous situation. Council met talked about it and decided that everything was just fine the way it is now, or to paraphrase, This is Texas - get over it.

Huh? not according to several dictionaries I have. The only people I ever heard insist on this was my drill sergeant, but his vocabulary was sort of limited mostly, to four letter words.

Is my gluegun a glue pistol?

Some people also insist that a revolver is not a pistol, I don't understand this either. when even Sam Colt called his 6 shooter a pistol.

If you can tell where/when I won't be faced with a bad guy then I will not carry there :)

I was always taught that the difference in small arms is that a gun has a smooth bore instead of a rifled bore. So a pistol or rifle is not truly a gun, but a shotgun is. Well, then they invented rifled slug barrels for shotguns and really confused the issue. I have also thought this distinction is about as important as the difference between a magazine and a clip. There are technical differences but if the people know what you are talking about, it is good to go.

But saying that a gun is a cannon is a good funny answer to the people who exclaim "You carry a gun?"

And the Howitzer is rifled. But it is a gun.

Nnyokaye LIberty, I appreciate all the hard work looking up stuff in online dictionaries and all, but it was just a joke. Sorry you had to go through all those contortions to straighten me out. I guess I kind-of thought it was obvious. Next time, I'll try to remember to include a funny emoticon.

curious about that.

I tell my friends when I am and (on rare occasions) am not armed, because I want them aware of whether I'm capable of engaging a threat or not.

that's doubly true of the one I hang out with the most, since he's also CHL. We make a point of both knowing if the other isn't armed for some odd reason.

That doesn't mean I announce my status to casual acquaintances, but friends, yeah.

A good buddy and I do this same thing. My wife will also occasionally check in. "You bringing protection?"

Seriously, I don't have a policy or canned response for this; I just handle it on a case by case basis. On the two or three occasions where it actually happened it was from people I trust, so I just said I did, and that was that.

Yeah, I probably over responded. Its sort of a pet peave of mine though. There are some people who can't help but correct people over the use of the words like Gun vs Rifle, Pistol vs Revolver and even clip vs magazine. It annoys me because usually they are wrong about the context. And even when they are correct in the case of Magazine vs Clip. I find the term Pistol magazine more confusing and vague than the incorrect term "pistol clip".
