That's why I quit going in the DFW area. . .LSL wrote:puma guy wrote: A question if I may. Was the Pasadena Convenion Center still being posted with a 30.06 sign?
Yes, 30.06 sign posted and two peace officers were on inside unlocking, unloading and tie wrapping all firearms.
If I'm going to avoid giving my money to retailers who trample on my rights to self defense, I'm definitely not going to reward somebody who's supposed to be on our side - even if the sign is technically unenforceable.
The fact that they've been overcrowded, filled with rude people, and that the discounts/bargains have all but disappeared further motivate me to keep my admission price money in my pocket.
I'll continue to advocate that others do the same. . . (and I'm not moved by the insurance argument. . . surely there are some entrepreneurial pro2A financiers who could creatively write up a policy. I doubt the coverage they get is that locked down for the sites where the signs are technically unenforceable due to being on public property. I don't feel like being a test case, but I do believe that concealed is concealed, so if you know it's not enforceable, I'd be tempted to walk right past their off-duty LEOs. You just have to carry a firearm you're not looking to sell or buy parts and accessories for.)
If anybody finds a non-30.06-posted gun show in North Texas, let me know and I'll try to be the first one in line.

Re: Texas gun shows: Recent, current, and upcoming.
I went to the Lewisville Gun Show this past weekend. Due to other commitments, I could
only get there at 430 PM for a fast 30 minute look. The ticket lady was nice enough to let me in for free.
Several dealers had one Springer XDS each. They were retailing for $629 to $649. When they are more available,
the prices should coast southbound.
One dealer had a Ruger SR1911 for the list price of $799 while another dealer had the same item for $899 - can you
say "sucker"?
It seems that there are a lot of .22 caliber 1911's for about $389.99, even Sig Sauer. Practice with a .22, carry one in .45.

I have considered one of those .22 1911's for my daughter's first handgun, but she really likes the Ruger Mark III's and shoots well with the rentals at The Bullet Trap.surprise_i'm_armed wrote:I went to the Lewisville Gun Show this past weekend. Due to other commitments, I could

I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Re: Texas gun shows: Recent, current, and upcoming.
The reason those 1911's in .22 caught my attention was that I have to take
my CHL renewal around October 2013, and I thought maybe one of them would be
just the ticket to make one large hole in the qualifying target.
The ergonomics of a 1911, with the cheap ammo, could be a winner on the test,
since Texas doesn't have a "caliber" requirement. Since the 1911 in .22 would be
a semi-auto, it would qualify to keep my CHL in "SA" status.
I'm toying with the idea of an upgrade to a .45, but not sure which one.
Short list includes a 1911, XD/XDM/XDS, or M & P.

I thought there was a .32 caliber minimum for the test. Did they change that?surprise_i'm_armed wrote:The ergonomics of a 1911, with the cheap ammo, could be a winner on the test,

Re: Texas gun shows: Recent, current, and upcoming.
When I took my class last year, there was a .32 minimum requirement.
from the Sept2011 CHL-16
from the Sept2011 CHL-16
GC §411.188. HANDGUN PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT. (a) The director by rule shall establish minimum standards for handgun proficiency and shall develop a course to teach handgun proficiency and examinations to measure handgun proficiency. The course to teach handgun proficiency must contain training sessions divided into two parts. One part of the course must be classroom instruction and the other part must be range instruction and an actual demonstration by the applicant of the applicant's ability to safely and proficiently use the applicable category of handgun. An applicant must be able to demonstrate, at a minimum, the degree of proficiency that is required to effectively operate a handgun of .32 caliber or above.

I'm headed to the one in Carthage right now. It's at the Civic Center on the south/west end of the loop. $7 and I don't remember if you can carry or not.
Molon Labe! Come and take them!
