Biden: New gun controls likely won't end shootings
By Kasie Hunt, Political Reporter, NBC News
Vice President Joe Biden acknowledged that new gun laws would not "fundamentally alter" the likelihood of another mass shooting, though he insisted there has been a "sea change" in American views on guns in the wake of Newtown.

"Nothing we're going to do is going to fundamentally alter or eliminate the possibility of another mass shooting or guarantee that we will bring gun deaths down to 1,000 a year from what it is now," Biden told reporters Thursday afternoon after he spent over an hour lunching with Democratic senators at the Capitol.

"But there are things that we can do, demonstrably can do, that have virtually zero impact on your Second Amendment right to own a weapon for both self defense and recreation that can save some lives," he said.
I'm guessing he thinks that outlawing half of my financial investment in firearms will have virtually no impact on my rights.

Like Giffords, something has to be done. Good grief. Let's do something even if it doesn't help.

When exactly did "gun control" become "gun-safety"? I guess that's more palatable for a lot of people.
Still, that was before Newtown -- and the vice president insisted Thursday that the tragedy there changed the public's attitudes toward gun-safety legislation, a reality that would make new firearms regulations possible.

Yeah, a sea change in that a lot more people understand what the gun-grabbers are up to and what their real goal is...how many new members does the NRA have in the last month or so?

this mentality of "something needs to be done, anything... please for the children" is quite dangerous... Doing the wrong thing just because something needs to be done is quite moronic.

Not to mention turning a moderate, MSNBC watching Reagan Democrat into a FOX watching Republican supporter.
They got their way In 1994, and it cost them the mid terms. I think they're at risk of losing the 2014 mid terms WITHOUT getting their way this time.

He's correct. There has been a 'sea change' in American thinking. NRA membership has spiked. Demand for firearms is way up. People are buying ammo faster than they can make it. CHL classes are mostly booked solid through the next several months. Etc. I'm sure some folks went out & bought a new AR or a few boxes of ammo after the election. But what we're seeing right now isn't just an up-tick in those of us who could be considered avid hobbyists. This is a full-on flood of people wanting firearms & such. Obama, Biden & Feinstein should get a big ol thank you note from the manufacturers because they've done wonders for the firearms industry.

I sincerely hope you are just spouting sarcasm. :txflag:

I sincerely hope you are just spouting something in an attempt to be funny. I can't imagine how I could have made the sarcasm any more obvious. Well, I guess I could have put (NOTE: THIS IS SARCASM).
