january apps
If you sent an app this month please post updates on this thread. Just looking to see what others are seeing
Re: january apps
I mailed everything off certified mail return receipt requested on January 2, 2013. The return receipt was stamped as received on January 3, 2013 and I received the receipt back by the 5th of January. My status did not change online until January 23, 2013.
I got a bang on my status because the instructor did not fill out the hours from the proficiency training in the box. He marked it as passed and selected the SA category, but with the hours not dilled in DPS is sending me a letter. I am also under review for the photographs. I had gone to Walgreens and I told the lady that I did not think they would be accepted. She assured me that they would. "We do this all the time", she told me "Trust me".
I contacted my instructor and asked that he meet me to get this potion filled out. Luckily I made copies of everything I sent in so that I am not sitting here trying to guess what they are picking at. I have not actually gotten my letter from DPS in the mail, but I want to have everything ready to send off as soon as I do. I am going to include photos and a letter just in case so that the process does not get delayed further.
Due to my work schedule I hired an instructor to teach me 1 on 1 so that I could take longer breaks to return calls if needed or call it a day if I had to deal with a client's matter. This small oversight is not really a big deal in the scheme of things. I paid $300 for the private class. My hours were not reduced OF COURSE!!! however I did get to spend extra time with a very experienced instructor who like myself is an Eagle Scout. I think that I got my money's worth and then some! 98% on the written and 97.2% on the range... it was about my schedule.

Re: january apps
New member here, I took the class Jan.12,2013, tried to do online application but kept getting an error saying that they didn't recognize my info. Couldn't ever get it to work so I tried the dreaded phone call to TXDPS and after being on hold for 40 minutes I finally talked to a real person. They asked if I have ever had to change my D.L. number, I said yes about 10 years ago when I had identity theft. They figured that was the problem and informed me of all the paperwork I needed to fill out and that I would need to mail it in. Atleast I got an answer, even though I know that it will probably drag the process out even longer. They also told me that I will have to wait a minimum of 30 days to get a letter from them in the mail, and at that point I can schedule my fingerprints and go from there. I filled out all the required forms and afidavits that had to get notarized , including my 2 passport photos and a check for the application and sent it to them in certified mail on Jan 17th. I still haven't recived my slip saying that they have recieved the packet. I will update as things progress.
Re: january apps
I'm in the same situation:
I sent in my application packet via certified mail, which they received on January 7th. Status still states that they are awaiting the receipt of my packet....

05JAN13: Bought OWB Holster - $60
07JAN13: CHL Completed Packaged Mailed - $1 postage
10JAN13: Bought IWB Sticky Holster - $27
10JAN13: Bought Membership to Bullet Trap - $350
???: Packet Arrived At Austin
27JAN13: First Response from Austin...
27JAN13: Background Under Review
03FEB13: Background Complete, Pending Manufacturing
05FEB13: Concealed Handgun License : Mailed (5-10 business days is what the email said)
09FEB13: Plastic in hand.
Final thoughts: This is the first time i have really owned a firearm, so I don't know how I feel about the ability to carry a gun in public. I just pray that I will never be in a situation where I have to use it to defend myself, but If i do, I have been training and I am comfortable with my ability as well as my judgement. I am glad that I live in Texas where I have the right to have a firearm in my possession and truly be able to have my 2nd amendment right.
God bless texas!!

Re: january apps
I'm currently at the background check status. Any estimate on how long this normally takes before manufacturing begins?
Re: january apps
I am still rather new to this process, however from what I have seen it depends on who is doing the check (out of your control), if anything comes up with your name (even if you share a name with someone with a record it could delay). Anywhere from 5 days - 2 1/2 weeks is what I have seen recently though.gr0cerycarter wrote:I'm currently at the background check status.
