no guns or ammo
Ive been to academy and a few other gun stores, nobody seems to have ammo or any fun guns. People are at academy before they open just waiting to pick the store clean. Im in round rock/ austin. Anybody else seeing stuff like this?

Re: no guns or ammo
Last week at Academy, I got three 375-count boxes of CCI .22LR MiniMag off the rack as they were filling the shelves. [I left three boxes for others.] This week, I checked Academy several times.
No 9mm, .45ACP, or .22LR on the shelf. A new sign appeared that this ammo is stored behind the counter and a customer is allowed to purchase up to three boxes per visit. However, there was actually no ammo available behind the counter. I heard the clerk tell one really anxious customer, "We are getting a shipment in tonight, so be in line first thing in the morning and you may be able to get your three boxes." This is insane. I am glad that I built up my reserves last summer.
The gun cases had about 25% of what they normally carry. A few Glock, Taurus, and Smith & Wesson pistols. No evil, black rifles in sight.
I feel sorry for some of the new gun owners who can't find any ammo for their new gun. One of our local gun dealers has some ammo stored back, so if you purchase a new gun, you can at least buy three boxes of ammo with your new gun purchase. And to his credit, he has not raised the price on either guns or ammo during this debacle.

Re: no guns or ammo
All the ammo shelves in nearby Walmart are empty. I will start taking pictures and start uploading to web with date time and name of the store.

Re: no guns or ammo
Our local Academy has now placed all the scarce ammo - 9mm, .40, .45, .223/5.56, and .22LR - at customer service desk with a strict one box per caliber per day restriction. Hopefully this stops the hoarding and reselling and leaves a bit of ammo for everyone.

round rock/ austin huh?
Kingsland Gun and Knife Show Jan 26/27 Sat 9-5 Sun 9-4; 3451 Rose Hill Drive Phone-210-827-6302
Usually some reloaders there ... and usually some ammo for less popular calibers, usually a lot of older used guns and such, usually LOTS of 1911s in good shape, usually a small show, usually no Glocks, but I did score an XD45 Stainless at a good price one year;Kingsland Community Center
not positive I'll be there, I might be ... a friend will have a booth/table - I think some pawn shops and gun stores will have booths
I have No affiliation
nice daytrip- change of scenery anyway :)

Re: no guns or ammo
I was at the Academy in RR on Tuesday on my way back to east Texas and they had about 8 boxes (20 rd) 5.56, with a limit of one box/day/calibre and 3 boxes total. The kid at customer service told me to take the first box out to my truck, come back in and go to a different line. He had another box of 5.56 in hand when I came back in.
On another note, I scored two PMags Friday at $16 each. For those of you in east Texas, JJs Pawn in Nacogdoches will put your name on a list and will let you buy 2 when they come in, at normal cost.

Molon Labe! Come and take them!

I have also heard, but not witnessed, that Academy is swiping a driver's license with the ammo purchase. I'm going to go see about it at lunch today.

At Academy in Round Rock you can ask for ammo that is kept behind the counter at customer service. You are limited to one box at a time.

Re: no guns or ammo
I picked up a 350 pack of 9mm blazer brass yesterday at academy in Killeen. They still had quite a bit 45 acp and 40.. The gun counter was surprisingly stocked. I picked up an XDS that hadn't been displayed yet just out of excitement for finding one! They got one AR in but was sold by the time the store opened (windham).

Re: no guns or ammo
I went to an Academy before I went to work yesterday (FYI, they get scheduled deliveries before the stores open on Monday, Wednesday & Fridays). There were about 20 people out front. I got:
1 ammo can of Blazer 9 mm (350 rds @ $99)
1 box of 556X45 (20 rds @ 8.99)
1 box of 22 (50 @ 1.99)
Paid cash and they asked for no ID, or my age
I was basically the last person in line and they still had bullets to sell after 8:15.
I'm sure the "free market " police will roast me, but I appreciate Academy doing this, I shouldn't have to wait out front of the store 3 hours early to buy all the ammo so I can resell it at a profit. Everyone in line seemed genuinely happy that they were able to walk away with something.
I'll do the same thing tomorrow on my way to the range

Re: no guns or ammo
Ya, no DL swiping. They do ask for a zip, I just put in an old address zip. Not sure why, I just hate giving my zip for their crap. I do think that different academys get shipments on different days though. I don't think that the temple academy gets shipments when the killeen one does.I think it's the opposite days.

Re: no guns or ammo
I was at the one in arlington monday. They had a pretty good amount of 9,40,45,7.62x.39, and said they had a few boxes of .223 when they opened but it went real quick. They had two 640rd can of the 7.62 for 179.99. They had a few guns at the counter, one M&P 15 22 that someone grabbed up right as they put it out, a couple 1911's, 1 glock and a few 6 shooters. No DL asked but they did ask for my zip but I said no thanks, payed and left.
