My opinion of Perry is pretty low. I ran half a dozen races with him over the past fall/winter and the man is just dumb as a rock. He couln't even find his name and finishing information (time/place) on the score sheet at the end of a race. And yeah, he did beat me every time. But not by much.

I hope I read incorrectly a couple weeks ago. Strayhorn was asked about the illegal alien problem in Texas and her response if I got it right ( evrything went red for a minute) was that the taxpayer owed an education and medical care to these " immigrants" and their children. Shameless pandering to the perceived opinions of Mex-Amer voters. Which I believe to be a gross misreading of most Mex-Amer voters. In fairness Perry wasn't much better in his response.

#1 I just wish she'd pick "one" last name and stick with it...All the potential hyphenation irritates me...

#2 I will not vote for her...She has not, and I don't anticipate her giving me that warm and fuzzy feeling to change my mind...

#3 On the other hand Rick Perry has done some really stuuuuuupid things while in that seat...But he has stuck with us on some issues...Some of which just kinda leaves you scratching your head...

Anybody can be elected...But it takes a true leader to be effective...Something we have not seen in a long time here...

The only thing I might be scared to do would be to put Charles in as Texas AG...We might have a dissagreement on certain things...But ya'll will enjoy the show...

I guess I am just not all that impressed with politicians these days...A lot of them are good friends though, and its hard to feel like you have to get tough sometimes when you have a serious dissagreement with them...But they do get the praise they deserve when they do something proper for the State...

I'm just going to have to hold my nose when I hit that button next time I suppose...

Nothing else out there seems to be percolating up to look at these days...

Really good information here. Thanks for all the opinions and facts. I tend to mimic the gun rights litmus test that Charles mentioned. If a candidate comes down on the wrong side of amendment #2, then I have no interest in all the great things they might do.

Thanks so much for the fast reply. I've been in an out of town and haven't been able to get back with you until now. I don't really feel as if my initial question was really addressed in your response.

I am curious, what is meant by negotiating from a position of strength and not weakness? Also, can you maybe touch on her specific thoughts on the concealed handgun license, as well as any plans she has to change the program.

Also, many of my colleagues and myself as well are curious how Carole plans on supporting the 2A if she is elected - as in what specific things she would like to implement.

Just asking for some clarity, thanks!

One thing I don't like about Kinky: he decries that we're 48th in per-child spending on education. He wants us to move up. I want us to move to #50, with no chance for challengers, because we've abolished the whole system and separated school and state.

So he's starting to expound on the issues, sometimes seriously, but more often with his trademark wit. In addition to the prayer in schools thing, there's another issue he's dead-set on: a law banning the declawing of cats. He's also toying with the idea of coming out in favor of gambling. A few other Kinky positions not found in the Kama Sutra -- abortion: "I'm not pro-choice or pro-life. I'm pro football." Gun control: "I don't carry a weapon myself, so if someone wants to shoot me they better bring their own gun." Political correctness: "We didn't get to be the Lone Star State by being PC, so I want to get rid of that." Everything else: "Sometimes I'll just quote Albert Einstein and tell people I just don't know."

And anyway, according to Friedman, the issues don't matter all that much. After all, this is only the governor's job we're talking about. In Texas, it's largely a ceremonial gig -- the lieutenant governor does much more of the hands-on work of running the state.
